I just got the newest Media Center and for some reason it's not playing the newest (and baddest) Matrix Reloaded trailer. It is over 60 MB... sure it plays the small ones but not the big monster ones. It starts playing for 3 seconds and then turns off... I have to continually move the cursor in order for it to run. It sounds silly I know... I took off the screen savers and still nothing.
My system is able to handle this type of file ( 1000x540, 24 frames a second!) with QuickTime player. I have the newest version of the player... so what gives?
Thanks!

happy5,
Can you point me to the trailer you are trying to play so I can test this?

http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/
The new main one is on the front page... A few others in the site and check out the animatrix trailer and 3 free episodes (4th next month)...
All in all the matrix sites have been really cool.. The philosophy section has some very interesting articles on the nature of reality and how do you determine the same and a essay by my old prof Kevin Warrick...
Personally I am posatively salivating for the next 2 films...

If you are looking to bech your system on video stuff try these...
http://windowsmedia.com/9series/DemoCenter/VideoQuality.asp?page=6&lookup=VideoQuality
The step into liquid stutters on my P2.2 and pegs the CPU butplays smooth on my P2.4 HTPC...
The step into liquid is a VBR clip and apparently is the upper end of what the HD version of T2 will be like under WMP on the Ultimate edition in June... The 'Confidence' trailer is higher bitrate at 8.5 or so but is either pegged with a lower top end or CBR as its smooth as silk (and ohh so good to look at via a high rez projector) on the same machines....
Using Zoom Player its a hair easier to get playback and I understand that CinePlayer 1.5 also plays back smooth on slightly lower systems...
1080p is looking like it will need >3Ghz so that will be upgrade time...
Hope your on broadband... :D !!!

Err... that's no the question I asked, although I do agree that the latest Matrix trailers rock! I can't play huge video files on MC... they'll open up for a few seconds and then they don't play (but the audio is there). I tried everything and I've used MJ before...

Congratulations. You're thread has been partially hijacked. :)
Don't worry. It happens to the best (and worst) of us. And we're all guilty of it.
In fact, I think I'm hjacking what's left of it right now. ;)
They'll get to the bottom of it, fear not.
I'm just wondering if SteveG is actually the guy in charge of quicktime playback, or if he just wanted to know where he could get the trailer for himself. ;)

I am on the Quicktime Playback case. So I am dutifully downloading this hog of a trailer to test it out. No offense to the Matrix, but I could film the movie myself in this time ;)

Happy5,
If you have not downloaded MC 9.0.154, please get it and retry playing that trailer. There were some modifications recently to the Quicktime Playback that may make a difference for you. I am currently watching the trailer on XP using 9.0.154 with no problem.
Steve
PS It looks like a decent film.

Steve,
Get back to work.

Uh, oh... did I get you in trouble? :P

Darn, just when I was settling in with the popcorn ;)

Downloaded the newest version of MC and The Matrix Reloaded trailers played in the all of their wonderful glory!
Another question? What's the "check for updates" (CTRL + J) tab for? There can be 12 new different versions of MC and it always says there's nothing new. It shouldn't be for the plugins only because not every user logs on to this forum!
PS. You know, some of us actually have a lot of work to do!! Or don't work with computers. I'm a medical student and can't spend as much quality time with my computer as I'd like to.

Check for updates will only report what's publicly available on our downloads page. This board often has newer (but perhaps riskier) software.
Please don't stop studying. When you get out of school could you send us a check for the 45 minutes Steve spent watching the trailer yesterday?

Yes, please study extra hard and find a cure for the stomach ache that comes from snacking on too much buttered popcorn while chilling at work watching trailers.
