Title: Improve mp4 video playback & language support and add MQA
Post by: HS_Real on August 29, 2020, 08:41:52 am
Hi, I used MC since version 22.

I like the balanced support of JRiver on both videos and audio. That said, I find there is little improvement on the following aspect from my previous annual upgrades:

1. Auto-detect the correct subtitle when playing .mp4 video (VLC media player can do it properly when both video and subtitle files are located under the same folder. Meanwhile, I always face issue to manually open and run subtitle file via JRiver)

2. Poor detection of Chinese and Japanese Characters in song/video name.

Meanwhile, it would be good to see JRMC27 can support MQA as I saw competitors like Roon and Audirvana now support it.

I hope JRMC27 would give us user some major improvements. (P.S. I subscribed to JRMC27 already)

Do a search of the forums, official MQA support in JRiver Media Center likely isn't going to happen. The reasoning for JRiver's decision on MQA has been discussed countless times on the forums over the years.

That said, unofficially you can passthrough MQA through JRiver Media Center if you're using no DSP whatsoever and volume is set to 100%, the DAC will handle the decoding of MQA files but Media Center itself doesn't and likely won't support it officially. I wouldn't expect official support either, considering JRiver's stance on MQA being a solution in pursuit of a problem, which I personally agree with.
