Title: Problem Running Media Center 26
Post by: ManOnTheMoon on August 31, 2020, 09:08:41 am
Good Morning!

My old desktop computer bit the dust, so I purchased a new desktop and reinstalled all my software on the new computer.

Now when I start I get an error message popping up that says 'Media Center 26 is running, but there may be a problem.'  I've attached a screenshot of this error message.

I am only running JRiver on one computer. I don't have it installed anywhere else. I am also not running Media Server in Windows Startup. And I'm not running it under a different user account.

How can I get this error message from going away? I have a feeling that it's affecting something.

take a look at #2

Thank you for the feedback.

I tried #2 as suggested and it didn't work for me.

I've attached all the startup programs in the Task Manager. None of those seem to relate to #2. Do any of them look like they would conflict with JRiver?

Is there another place that I should be looking?

Thank you again... this is very very appreciated.

so you have verified in MC options startup that nothing is to do so. you have the latest version of MC installed.

search the forum for: how to tame windows defender and or any other anti virus you may have installed. windows 10 can be tricky very very tricky.

any chance you have a older backup from the defunct pc around.

Thank you Ohm... I uninstalled McAfee Live and now importing CDs to my music library in MC 26 works brilliantly.

Which AV software do you recommend that works well with MC?

Thank you again..

Windows Defender is fine, but you must configure it correctly.  There is a thread about it on this forum.

I searched for "windows defender" in the forum and can't find the thread. Would you mind sending me the link?

Thank you again!

Sorry for the late reply... I've been tied up with work and family... I finally have time today to organize some of my music :)

In any case, I've followed the instructions on how to configure Windows Defender. That didn't help at all. I even disabled it as a test and that didn't help as well.

It's strange... when I insert a CD to copy to my library, I sometimes get that popup that I showed before and I also have to close and restart JRiver to get it to recognize that a CD is actually inserted. It's a real pain. LOL.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling JRiver and that didn't help.

The install on my old computer worked fine. It ran Windows 10 as well. But, that computer is long gone to the attic.

I'm at a loss... are there any other ideas on how to get this to work? It's definitely not the anti virus program.

Quick update. I've installed MC 27 and the problem went away! I don't know what happened but you won't hear any complaints from me :)

Thank you everyone for your help!
