Title: Copy Tags from One Album to Another
Post by: nonightsweats on October 02, 2020, 07:52:21 pm
I have just upgraded a 5 cd compilation of electronic music from vbr to flac. There are a large number of tracks.

The vbr version has very good tags with full artist names and dates for each track and well noted french spellings etc. The flac version unfortunately does not have very good tags at all.

I have tried the "Lookup track info from online database" but it does not work for any of the tracks.

So... is there a way to copy the tags from the vbr files to the flac files?

Select vbr tracks and copy tags with Ctrl+c then select flac files and ctrl+shift+v to paste tags you just copied from vbr tracks. Keep tracks sorted in same order for both source and destination so correct tags will be copied to correct files.

Ctrl+z should undo the changes if you mess up...

Keep tracks sorted in same order for both source and destination

This is worth saying twice.  If you don't keep your sort order identical, it will all end in tears.

Also, you don't have to remember a secret keystroke to access this cool feature. It's available from the top edit menu, or from the right-click menu as "Paste tags..."

You may want to check out MCFileIngestor, as it is fantastic for exactly this task (replacing existing copies of files in MC with new "rips" while preserving all metadata):
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=76147.msg528833#msg528833

This has the benefit that it can automatically fully replace the files in MC's Library (including things like Playlists) and clone all of the detail from the "original" files in MC's database, including things like Play Stats, Date Imported, and other details that don't "transfer over" if you do the copy/paste method described above.
