I'm attemting to use MJ 8.0.394 to copy albums to CD. I get no errors but the CD is blank.
While troubleshooting I found that the CD writer setting USE INTERNAL ASPI LAYER is unchecked and grayed out. Could this be my problem?
If not, any ideas??
(I'm running Me; device-specific driver; ASPI layer is supposedly current and OK; CD-R drive appears to run OK at 4X; I've tried different media)

It will be on W9x systems, so it's important to have latest Adaptec ASPI.
Explain the process you go through, also post your sys info from Help>System Info in MJ.

I'm not clear which process you mean - configuring the system or making a copy. This is how I've attempted to copy albums:
1) I use the RECORD SOUND feature to record the album to disk. I can replay the disk files OK.
2) I select the WMA files I wish to record.
3) I select Burn CD -->Audio CD-->OK-->Start.
4) MJ goes through the motions but Explorer doesn't see any files on the CD.

Record procedure...like you have.
So your taking the recorded tunes (as wav's) and converting them to wma (that may be part of it, MJ'a WMA handling is a little rough right now). Then your sending it to the burner.
OK...this is how I'd do it...
1) Record the tunes
2) Convert them to mp3's using the MP3 VBR encoder set at normal to normal/high (I personally encode with ogg(http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/style_images/1/icon12.gif) only). If you don't care about disk files then skip this step (you can burn wav's to the CD).
3) Create a new playlist (call it Burn) and drag your new files into it.
4) Right click on the Burn folder and Send to>Device>your burner
5) Click on your burner under the CD & Handhelds folder
6) Proceed (should be evident what to do at this point)
Your one version behind on your ASPI. Get the latest (4.7.1.2 I believe). Make sure MJ isn't running when you install it.

By default, MJ stores my sound files as WMAs. The CD writer appears to convert the WMAs to WAVs before writing to CD.
If the WMA format is giving grief, can I convince MJ to store the sound files as WAVs rather than WMAs?

Surely
In MJ, go to Settings>Options>Encoding and change the Encoder to MP3 Encoder VBR and set quality to Normal or Normal/High (or whatever your preference). If you want the files left alone as wav's then pick Uncompressed Wave.

I just ran a test where I stored my sound files as WAVs and was able to copy these to CD OK.
Apparently using WMA files as an intermediate step is a no-no.

WMA files can be "secure" files. This can happen if you rip with WMA set to something like "use personal security" in Windows Media Player.
They can also be licensed content that may not allow burning.
There is also the WMP9 issue now which is causing some problems. We don't support WMP9 content yet since Microsoft has not released the SDK.

According to MSDN, the WMP9 SDK was released Jan 7. Here's the link:

Without signing a different contract, we can't read their licensed content. We received e-mail a couple days ago saying they were still working on the wording of the contract.
