Here's a thought: anyone here want to enter a completely rewardless photography "competition"? Simply tag your entry on to the end of this thread.
To qualify:
- Photos should be max 640x480 res.
- No image enhancing / editing apart from resize and rotate where absolutely necessary - ie: we want to see your skills as a photographer, rather than a digital image editor.
- Remember that this is a public forum... pictures must be... decent.
- Only one entry per person.
- Please include a title, a location and a date, where possible.
We won't judge a winner, but please feel free to leave comments about others' pictures!
Here is my entry:

1) I'm not really good at taking pictures.
2) The camera is like 3 years old so the quality is not as good.
3) I could only take 6 pictures (high "not so good" quality).
4) The battery was going dead on me.
5) You wouldn't believe all the mud I had to walk through to get this.
6) The sun was going down faster than I was getting the picture ready.
7) Out of the 6 pics I took, only 2 looked halfway decent.
8) Here ya go. I know it's not that pretty lookin' but I did something at least. (shhh..I'm in it for a t-shirt :P )

Not that I'm trying to create a flower theme here, but this was taken around 3/8/03 on a trail off of Pacific Coast Highway north of Malibu in California.
All of these pics are awesome though. Hope we get some more participation.

If i have the chance to go to America someday i think that the first think i will try to do is visit some ghost town, in Portugal only in movies.
-
I'd do ANYTHING for a free tshirt! I figure I'll go with the established scenic motif, so this one is taken in California on the road north towards Mammoth. Scan is bad, but oh well.

Wow...
1. Very dramatic, yet peacful at the same time. Nice job Phydeaux
2. Water, people, a city in mid flight...very cool. Are those sailboats on a cart? To rent? Very cool.
3. A dramatic yet peacful front yard. Everybody wants a shady lane.
4. That's mine, I find it a bit predicatable. But hey, I like it anyway.
5. That blue sky cannot be real. It's a great shot, ironic, funny, spooky and absolutely perfect lighting. Ah, the California Sun.
6. That was out in February? An early reminder of what's to come. Pretty shot, California sunshine comes through again.
7. Theme? I guess it's how beautiful California is. I love that stretch of highway, georgous scenery. I like the shading in the shot, it gives great depth to it.
8. I think Utah is the second most beautiful place I've seen in the North America. It is breathtaking, truly. You can't go wrong there, I've driven through Bryce, it's stunning. That's a great angle on the shot.
9. Another drama\peace shot. I think it's worth a shirt. Too bad it's not my decision...:P
I enjoyed that very much. A true day brightener. Thanks everyone and especially Phydeaux for a standout OT!

Ok, I didn't actually take this one, but I was present when it was taken. I don't really care to be entered in the contest or anything. I just thought I'd share this one.

Ok, here are my comments on the pics posted:
JimH: Nice composition! Is that the Arc de Triomphe in the BG?
Dragyn: I think that your mud wading was worth it! Stunning horizon - simple, yet dramatic!
WarrenPeace: I like that pic a lot! Also was inspired to take my own "sunburst" pic, but I need to fiddle more with aperture/shutter settings to get a decent take.
Quisp: What an awesome sky! Lovely!
beergeek: My personal favourite of the lot! Very clever idea!
Sikamikanico: Beauty is in natures slight imperfections! Excellent use of apperture.
Akmed: What a spectacular view!
The Dude: Cool clouds! Great use of contrast and lighting.
fex: What a view! Must have been an incredible trip to see that!
JollyJim: I love sunrise (or is it sunset?) pics. Fantastic colours alwas garuanteed!
Sharpliner: Beautiful! So serene too.
peterH: What a stunning scene!
Thanks to all who've participated thus far! Some really spectacular images have come from this! Thanks also to JimH for sponsoring some prizes.

Some really nice pics posted so far. Here's a photo taken inside the catholic church in Nice, France. This is probably the darkest church I've ever been in - there is hardly any natural light, just the single spotlight under the altar, and some candles. It's beautiful, but a little spooky.

Is the thread dead?
Is the contest assessed?
Is the tee shirt inert?
I know..

And so ?

Jim, I couldn't begin to detail the history here but I will give you the URL of the web site. Basically it was built in 1068 for William the Conqueror. It has a long history. It managed to survive destruction during the English Civil War wheras Kenilworth Castle (down the road) was destryoed due to it being on the Parlimentary side and not the Royal side. It was owned by the Earls of Warwick for many years but was bought by Madame Tussauds in the 1980s and is now one of Englands most popular tourist attractions. The Url is http://www.warwick-castle.co.uk

You can type [ img ] (without the spaces)

then [ /img ] (without the spaces)
as Jim advised above for a web site link...how do I link to an image on a hard drive...simply put the location C: etc instead of http: etc or is there more to it.
Have tried without success.
Any assistance appreciated.

You can't put nothing included on your hard drive here, you must put the picture on a site or send the picture to me and i will put the picture online for you like i did with JollyJim

Konicky - nice macro shot. What lens? (or what's the image size on the negative: 1-1?)
smOOzz - another nice shot. What's the focal length on the lens? Less than 35 I bet.

Hi John,
The picture was taken with a Ricoh Caplio RR30. Only an average camera generally but it has a great macro mode. It has been cropped and enlarged a bit, image is about half the size on the original.
-
Hi John, Focal length?
28 - 110 zoom lens so I guess 28 mm is the answer? Trust an Admin guy to get technical. Camera is a Olympus IS200 compact SLR. I am just a happy snapper who should learn more about this art of photography so I hope I've given you the right answer to your question. Have a good day !
