Title: My music crackles after converting it to another format !
Post by: josh333 on November 09, 2020, 05:42:01 pm
Good evening everyone, I have a problem with my system. I am able to listen to my files which I converted previously to DSD, I like to feel that the file cannot be changed in any way in its listening, and the ones I convert now crackle a bit at the beginning , not dramatically, but it's unpleasant when I consider that there is nearly $ 5,000 Canadian in the system I have now. I am open to your solution and also if you are aware of the problem. Thank you !

Are the DSD files the ones you're having trouble with?

Did you rip them from SACD discs?  There is a known problem with that.  Try a search on Google.

Good evening.  No.  Quite conventional CDs bought online.  It's just that I had to re-download them, so converted them back to DSD because there is some one that I wanted!

It does not make a lot of music in DSD I like that the file is in no way editable while listening so ...

And also music that sounds good before conversion.

So you bought an ordinary CD, but you downloaded something else.

Then you converted the files from the CD?  Or the downloaded files?

Try ripping the CD to FLAC with MC.  Does that work?

It is less worse than converting it to wave to put it in dsd but there are still crackles. We'll watch it tomorrow A +

I have a Fiio Q1 Mark II dac in troubleshooting is it relevant to try with it as a source instead of my nu audio trying to convert my files ?

Good evening. sorry to have been so long everything works fine with aimp converter in terms of converting it to 384khz to pcm but hey that's not what I want :( and as for my fiio Q1 Mark II also for everything except DSD and only JRiver I have that can convert to DSD So I'm out of my mind there. Thanks!

If you're doing any sort of conversion that involves DSD you're going to encounter this issue unfortunately.

The only way around it is to avoid converting PCM to DSD or DSD to PCM, and using DSD bitstreaming to listen to actual DSD files (that haven't been converted). If you convert PCM to DSD you'll encounter this. If you convert DSD to PCM you'll also encounter this. Even DSD to DSD conversions because they have a PCM conversion step in the middle will also encounter this.

Ok, and do you have any idea when the converter is going to be fixed because normally every album that I download or rip I convert to DSD I like the sound better and there is no way to modify the sound and know that all my playlist are all converted to dsd, the format is more direct than PCM, thanks!

If you think the converted files sound better...

You could just have MC output in DSD format at playback time, rather than converting all the files.  DSP Studio:Output Format does this.

And you can tell me why it used to work and that now, as if by magic, we can't!

Hello, same result with my Fiio Q1 Mark II dac on my macbook pro, you just have to put the converter that you had with JRiver 26 back, right? Because before version 27 the converter had no problem converting PCM files to DSD. Thank you and good day !

I found the solution I downloaded a converter, ez cd audio converter and I can finally listen to the last audio files that I bought in dsd!

But it's still unfortunate that I have to buy other software while JRiver is out doing it.

I have proof that your converter is not working as it should, what are you going to do now ?

Good evening, I have been using this software for at least 5 years by converting my audio files to dsd128. Please give me at least an answer. Thank you !

I don't normally convert to DSD, but I tried it just now and confirmed that the converted file plays but pops regularly. I do have some DSD material that I bought as downloads, and these play fine. Used version 27.0.26, 64-bit.

I did not try converting with MC 26, but if the OP is reporting problems with 27 that he didn't see with previous versions, I do think it's worth looking at and commenting on.

Are you converting 44.1 content or another sample rate?  Thanks.

Are you converting 44.1 content or another sample rate?  Thanks.

Here's what I've tried:
24/48 PCM: Bad result
16/44 PCM: Conversion works fine
24/44 PCM: Conversion works fine
24/96 PCM: Bad result

PCM to DSD conversion was changed in MC 26.0.85.  No sure if that may have caused the problems.

26.0.85 (5/27/2020)

9. Changed: Use higher quality resampling for DSD from PCM playback.

Thanks for the 48k tip.  I can reproduce it.  I'll investigate soon.  Thanks again.
