Universal Music is the largest of the 5 major record labels and Steve Jobs and Apple seem interested in buying it from Vivendi, a French conglomerate, who bought it a few years ago from Seagrams.

I don't know exactly what it means, but it is a very interesting development.

Proprietary formats won't land them many sales.
Must have at least several format choices and quality levels. Price could be based on this. No one with even a passing knowledge of digital media is gonna be snookered into thinking that WMA @ 64 kbs is good stuff.
Should they do it, they should make the iPod a more then one trick pony as far as formats are concerned. READ: OGG and MPC support. Ooooh, there's a thought.
-
the problem then would be if Apple wants this to increase sales for now they will have to control the media format.
that means it will need to be an Apple Only secure format.
that would not make me run out and buy an apple but it may help them with others.

Great news, their CD's will look much cooler and come in more colors than everyone else's and cost 2x as much. ;)
(Said with love.)

:) LOL!!

Word on the street (so to speak) is that their download service will be exclusively AAC files. The next gen iPods (rumored to release sometime this century) will support AAC as will current models via download.
So, where's that AAC support in MC?? ;)
-
Nothing wrong with AAC! With a little trickery, you can get MC to play AAC. Tags are another matter though.

What does ACC stands for?

Hello,
What does ACC stands for?
You mean AAC, don't you ?
It's another compression format for music just like WMA, MP3, OGG, MPC.
AAC means Advanced Audio Coding and is part of the MPEG-4 standard. Apple computer is a supporter of this format. If you want to learn more on AAC and other audio compression format a gook link is
