Title: Audio is Too Fast
Post by: MAPgeekdad on December 20, 2020, 01:01:56 am
Hi,

Been using MC for 10+ years through many versions, and yesterday receive an update to 27.0.43.

I'm now experiencing audio playback that is "speeded up", i.e. playing faster than normal.  It is apparent to not just me but my entire family.

I couldn't find anything in MC than evens enables you to do that.  So I don't see any setting that may have changed.

Never experienced this problem before, or rarely any problems at all over the years.

Any help please.

Thanks!

Update:  A restart of Windows 10 seemed to fix it again (but still not quite sounding right) (same as last night, first time I experienced it after update to 27.0.43).

Also, I think it may have been triggered after switching libraries (?) on two different drives, both external connected by usb.

Update2: it still definitely was NOT sounding right; I went into DSP Studio, changed output encoding from DSD in DOP format to "None".

Voila!  Now it's sounding perfect again.  My external DAC is the same one I've been using for 2 years.  Did something in DSP change?

Playback mostly 24-192 WAV files.

FYI - In DSP Studio there is a Tempo and Pitch option that can speed up and slow down playback. Probably not your problem, but thought I would point it out.

@dtc

Any update?  is this an issue with DSP? has it been checked?

I do not have any details about your problem. I just added an aside for your information. Sorry.

I'm having the exact same problem since updating to version 27.0.43. Not having any problems with Media Center 26 or Roons.

What audio settings?  What audio device?

Make sure all DSP is off.

Is it only 192 content?  How about other rates?  I'm wondering if something is causing a resampling problem but we haven't reproduced anything yet.

I just made a 192 file and it's playing no problem.  What output rate have you selected for 192 content?  Does changing that in DSP Studio yield any different results?

Thanks.

Played a 192/24 track with .43 against a stopwatch and duration of play matched duration listed within MC.  Checked same track against streaming from Roon and couldn't detect a difference...

Outputting as DoP was broken for a few builds.  It should be fixed in the latest.

If there are any other issues, please let us know.

Thanks.

Output to an external DAC, which can handle DSD signal.

Just downloaded: JRiver Media Center 27.0.52 for Windows -- Available Here

Output Encoding in DSP Studio set to "DSD in DoP format"

Playback now working properly again.

Thanks.

It should be noted that JRiver aren't keen on subjectivity ;)
