Title: Start Media Server when Media Center Starts
Post by: nonightsweats on April 05, 2021, 05:01:32 pm
Hi. I have searched through the Options and the posts in this forum but cannot see the option to start Media SERVER when Media center starts. I thought this was an option somewhere but simply can't find it. The only thing I can find is start Media Server on windows start - which I don't want. I feel sure this was available as it was my standard setup but have just purchased a new PC. Any help appreciated.

It's in Options > Startup.

For next time,  there's a search window at the bottom of Options.

If you turn on Media Network, that's what happens.  Library Server runs.

Hi again - still confused as it's not doing what I assume it should be doing.

Attached are my settings for Startup, Media Network & General.

under this array
- on windows startup, neither media centre nor media server initiate
- when i start up Media Centre, Media Server does not start
 > until I specifically use the menus within Media Centre to initiate media server

Can anyone help me to ensure that Server starts up when and only when I start up Centre?

Dear nonightsweats please acitvate on "Windows Startup" "Media Center and Media Server" - as in your first pic.
At the moment you do have "Nothing" activated.

Read about Media Server on our wiki.

Why do you think Media Server is not running after you start Media Center? Is there some action that is not happening that you think should happen?

You have the 'share this library' option enabled. This means that whenever you launch Media Center, the library will be shared. When you close the main program, the library will no longer be shared. Do not stress about the 'server' icon in the notification area not being there. You have specified that the library should be shared, and it is being shared, as long as Media Center is running.

If you want different behaviour than that, what is it you want to happen, exactly?

Also, and more importantly, if your queries are based on more than the lack of visual indication (server icon in system tray area), please respond to dtc's question above.

thanks everyone for the advice. yes, my query was based solely on the fact that the icon does not appear in the system tray. and i note that shutdown of centre shuts down server as well.
