Title: 9.0.143 - Unable to Play WMA Files from Server
Post by: DWAnderson on April 06, 2003, 05:37:49 pm
When I attempt to play any WMA file I get the following Error dialog: "Playback Engine: Media Jukebox is unable to acquire license for this file. Windows Media Error: 0xc00D0029."

This error only occures when trying to play these files from the server on another computer.

I have no problem playing them with Windows Media Player, Musicmatch Jukebox, Media Jukebox and even prior versions of Media Center (e.g. prior to 9.0.130).

Personal Rights Management Was Turned On When The File Was Encoded, I Would Think.

I do not believe so. If that were the case, why do I have no problem playing the files with other apps? In any event, how can I check?

Not sure how to check, but around B130 is when JR made MC compatible (via SDK) with WMP9 (AFAIK). Something has changed, as you found out. If you can't play these WMA's on another computer, then that's a sure sign that they have been DRM'd. You may be able to look at the file properties/tags to determine as well.

I am pretty confident that personal rights management was NOT turned on when the files were ripped because I ripped them all myself. In addition, Windows Media Player 9 has no problem playing them. What do you suggest?
