Will ATMOS work with JRiver 27?
i am on Windows 10
i finally sussed how to get ATMOS via my Xbox One S, so it occurred to me i need to set JRiver for ATMOS because WOW i had no idea i was not getting ATMOS in JRiver after really hearing ATMOS
i have been playing ATMOS media for months not knowing this(Red faced)
i was receiving PCM+Dolby surround as my output when i played ATMOS and was too daft to suss it.
SO i do some changes in JRiver 27
Tools > Options > Audio > Settings > Bitstreaming > Custom > (select your formats)
i chose all formats
Then Player > DSP Studio > Output Format > Channels.i chose Dolby Digital
i rebooted JRiver 27, and i am now closer
i am now receiving "Dolby digital+ Dolby surround".Not ATMOS
Does JRiver support ATMOS?
If so how do i do the setup for that?
Am i close?
-
No - MC is not Dolby Atmos enabled, so it will only play those tracks as if they were either 5.1 or 7.1 tracks
However MC can Bitstream to a Dolby Atmos Enabled Receiver, i.e. a Soundbar, via HDMI, but only when the source, what is being played in MC, is video.

Thanks, mate
Yes, sorry i was not clear
I do have an ATMOS setup(NAD T778) system
Netflix etc will stream ATMOS, but I cannot get JRiver 27 to do ATMOS through my system
I noticed lesser software like potplayer/VLC will.i assume the audio is nowhere on par as JRiver
-
Not only do i not get ATMOS after the settings I did as I posted in OP
But now ATMOS blurays that worked before get this issue as in pic
But everything else that worked before works same now
So will JRiver 27 be able to help me get ATMOS somehow?
i assume so,or some other software.Folks must be getting it somehow
Cheers

Have you enabled bitstreaming?
As mentioned Media Center can't decode or encode Dolby Atmos, however if you enable bitstreaming it can send the Atmos to a receiver/soundbar for example so it can decode it.
-
Cheers mate
Yes i am trying to send to my Surround receiver
This is what I have done so far
Please see attached
-
You likely don't use output encoding under DSP Studio > Output Format. Otherwise, is it working?
-
Yes JRiver works a charm on anything else
Before I did those changes I mentioned all I got was a surround downmix, now I get what I call an improvement
I get a "Dolby Digital+Dolby Surround " stream
Were you suggesting I change something in DSP studio?
-
PS
If i choose "none" in DSP studio all I get as a stream is "PCM+ Dolby Surround"
All I want/need to do is send an unhindered stream to my amp?
i am feeling daft as heck because I assume thousands of folks have this sussed out already
Cheers

DSP Studio only goes to 5.1,but I assume that when I send to my AMP i will send the ATMOS stream un touched?

Try this :- In Tools >> Options >> Audio - set channels to Source number of channels, in DSP, and Bitstreaming to Yes (HDMI)
My setup includes a Samsung Harman/Karman Dolby Atmos Enabled Soundbar and the above settings work with it.
-
Thanks mate
In " In Tools >> Options >> Audio " I see no settings that say " set channels to Source number of channels"
In " in DSP, and Bitstreaming to Yes (HDMI)"
See pics,I found "Yes for HDMI" in "Bitstreaming",but no such setting in DSP/DSP studio that mentions HDMI
-
Sorry if you found my posting misleading - Setting the Channels is done in DSP Studio, which is accessible from the Tools >> Options >> Audio Page/Panel whilst the setting the Bitstreaming to Yes (HDMI) is done on that page and not in DSP
Your Audio Panel settings should look similar to the 1st attached image and the DSP Panel settings should look similar to the 2nd attached image.

No mate,it was not misleading.i just did not understand.i am daft and I have been at this since what is now yesterday lol
I'm shall try this mate after a wee shut eye
cheers

OK so I could not sleep till I sussed this lol
Those settings u showed me work great
Now I stream ATMOS from a Bluray perfectly
BUT,I still cannot get ATMOS from individual ATMOS files I extracted from the ATMOS channels
Any ideas what setting I missed?
Cheers mate

As far as I know this won't work if you're trying to use Atmos audio files. Atmos bitstreaming only works with video, as far as I know.

I wonder if renaming the file as mp4 might work.

Probably not - the Atmos data is carried in the sub-channels that other formats either do not use or use in a different way.

i read this person took individual ATMOS extracted files and converted to .MKV and they stream in ATMOS
Any opinions if this is legit mates?

What they probably did was use MakeMKV https://www.makemkv.com/ (https://www.makemkv.com/) to rip/extract the individual files from the BlueRay Disc to individual video files on the PC.
I used that method to extract the Files from the DVD that accompanies the 50th Anniversary Edition of the Beatle Abbey Road Album.
Not only is it legal one of the new features in MC 28 will be the ability to initiate that ripping from inside MC.
