I can see the following items
Playing Now
Audio
Images
Video
etc
etc
How do I edit these so I am showing fewer items here?
-
Tools->Options->General->Features
The checkboxes there will turn on/off features from the tree.
-
Perfect. Thanks Mark.
-
Matt, can you please hide a root node if there's nothing under it?
For instance, I have nothing under 'Drives & Devices' as I also disable the 'Explorer' feature.
-
What am I missing? I found this post about removing items from the left side menu and went to Tools > Options > General > Features, but don't see Documents on the list, for example, in order to remove it.
-
Any help? Why is Documents (for example) missing from Tools > Options > General > Features?
-
The "Documents" node is tied to the "Notes" feature. Try unchecking that.
-
Remove all your documents from the library and restart. It will go away then.
-
Matt is right, it's not Notes.
@Matt, can you please allow hiding "Drives & Devices" ?
-
And on a related subject... I'd like to see "Playing Now" NEVER expand unless I specifically expand it.

Try Tools > Options > General > Behavior

Try Tools > Options > General > Behavior
Jim, I've looked at Tools > Options > General > Behavior and I don't see anything related. What should I be looking for?
I remember a few versions back this was discussed and implemented, but Playing Now never stayed unexpanded.
I've tried searching the forum and I can't find anything on it...
What should I be looking for? Thanks

It is under Tools > Options > Tree & View. Uncheck "Auto-expand". This will apply to all Tree items though... nothing will auto-expand/collapse, not just Playing Now - that may be what you want anyway.
Also, that search box at the bottom of the Options window can come in very handy when trying to find a setting. A search of "auto" or "expand" would have narrowed down the items you needed to evaluate in order to find the one you needed.

Thank you. I have Auto-Expand unchecked... but PlayingNow expands every time I select it. I would like it to remain unexpanded unless I actually click the little arrow to expand it.
-
Make sure you click on the tiny arrow ONLY (on the right). Just selecting the line generally will expand/collapse that line, as it does with any line item in the tree. I would immediately close MC after collapsing Now Playing. I have found that sometimes the tree expand/collapse state does not "remember" unless you do.
Actually, this is a great opportunity to request that behavior be updated. The pick radius for that arrow is tiny... you must be very precise as to where you click, or it will expand the line AND replace your current tab with that tree item... it has been frustrating for as long as I have used MC.
I suggest a pick radius of up to 30px to the arrow's left (within the line height of course) where it expands the line only, but does not replace your current tab's contents.

Thank you. That worked! I removed all the documents from the MC and then it allowed me to delete "Documents" from the left column.
