I don't know if I missed the announcement (probably) or not, but I just noticed that this had been updated to allow this functionality in/on other fields besides just [Track #], as per Wer's March request on the MC 27 board for some updates for classical music tagging. As someone who does A LOT of classical tagging in MC, this new functionality really, really speeds things up for me. So: thanks again!
One suggestion, if possible: allow "Field" to be chosen same as we might for "Find and Replace" or other such operations, and have it be remembered as it is for "Find and Replace," with a check box. Besides track numbers, I use this tool for movement numbers and have a custom field I fill with it. It works fine as is but can be a pain having to type in the field name anew each time I use it.
But in the main, thanks again for such a time-saving feature!

Thanks for the feedback.
The list of fields adds track # and episode #. I suppose we could add all the fields instead, but that might be a little overwhelming for people.
Another approach would be to save the last used field or maybe last few used fields?
What do you think? Thanks.
-
Yes, I think that latter version (saving the last few fields, say) would work well for me. Thanks!

You got it.
Next build:
NEW: Typing a custom field into the Fill Track Numbers From List Order tool will save the fields for future use (up to ten are saved).

Excellent! Thanks again!

What expression needs to be in the field in order for track numbers to start over again with each new album? I messed it up from the default. "=Counter()" is not working.
-
I think as long as [Album] and maybe [Disc #] are there, you should be good. You can use custom fields too.

Neither one seemed to work. The track numbers does not start over with different albums.
-
Just to double-check: do you have [Track #] in "Field?" and "Start over each" is checked?
-
You want to start over each album probably.
I have this for start over:
Album;Disc #;Album Artist (auto)

Yes. I tried [Track #] and =[Track #], with the check mark ticked any it didn't work.
-
Starting over each track # would probably restart every track. You don't want that.

That worked. Thank you!!
