Title: BD_Rebuilder Quick play menus
Post by: gonca on August 02, 2021, 08:36:50 pm
Tried MC28 and found that it can't properly play these basic menus
If I burn this folder structure to disc it is playable on a stand alone player
Any chance this can be looked at?

Guess I won't be buying MC28+

For Blu-ray, we're focused on supporting makeMKV.  I don't know what BD-Rebuilder is.

What does this mean for the menu related MC crashing problem reported here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,130271.msg904005.html#msg904005

BD menus are supposed to work according to this post by Hendrik: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,129152.msg896485.html#msg896485

Am I the only one that's interested in playing discs without ripping or backup to MKV?

Maybe (possibly?) means that JRiver still has some issues with menus.
I tested back to version 25

We cannot actively provide support for third-party decryption tools. We have had good experiences with AnyDVD HD, as it runs entirely independent of any software using it. Might be worth inquiring with MakeMKV.

Our goal is to support commercial discs as good as possible within the limited resources we have. Custom-made discs have a lower priority.
If you can share a small disc that exhibits the problem, I could take a look, and hope it doesn't turn into a giant rabbit hole. (Note that an actual sample would be required - if I have to figure out how to use the software first to make one for myself, and then not even have the guarantee that it might exhibit the same issue due to whatever differences in the setup of the disc, changes are rather slim to none to actually win any competition for development time, hence that is a rather sought-after commodity.)

No, you're not the only one. I make backups of all my discs as true *.iso files and have maybe 6 *.mkv in my library (so I couldn't care less about the makeMKV integration ;)). Until now, I've encountered a handful of minor hick-ups in some DVD menus, but the vast majority of both DVD & BD menus are working fine (like >99% from my library). However, these are true backups, not some edited or reauthored or whatever stuff. The only thing is the usual AnyDVD HD treatment... So, from my perspective, the menu support is not perfect but very good!

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm first trying to figure out if the problem lies with MC or MakeMKV.

From your answer it seems that that it's known that the crashing is not due to an issue with MC.  Is this right?

I've posted a question about MC crashing on the MakeMKV forum and got no response.  I guess I can try again.

I'm not aware of a crash with MakeMKV used for decryption specifically, but its not a very well known feature and probably doesn't get used a whole lot. But the integration in itself is rather simple and very little chance to be wrong, so if something crashes there is a good chance its not on our end.

If you can share a small disc that exhibits the problem
Sent a link to a sample
If you say the issue is the menu I'll inform the developer over at Doom9
