Title: X to Exit
Post by: Soundwave on August 26, 2021, 11:25:12 pm
Doing my regular run reminding the devs of the ever persistent issue of trying to close the Playback Options window using the X button on the top right will ALWAYS prompt:

"Confirm Save Changes"

"Would you like to save any changes you've made?"

Even though literally nothing even gets touched in the settings. Been going on forever now.

Mine closes without asking.  Isn't there a choice that says always use this answer?  We worked on this several years ago, and I believe that was our solution.

It does ask every time you exit options. It would be good UX if it only asked when something has actually been changed. Then user could see if he has accidentally changed something and discard or ok'd it if he had changed something on purpose.

"Use this answer always" check mark isn't ideal as user definitely don't want to discard the changes always and "always ok" will surely result accidental changes and lead to more support to be done.

Other thing related to that in the Options is that MC is checking file location paths if I have clicked that tab while doing some other changes. If I have my server powered off (some file locations are terminated to server drive) this result MC not letting me to save my changes as it checks file paths (which has not been changed) and can't find the server ones. So I have to deny my changes, open options again and redo all my changes.

IMO MC should only check the paths if they have been changed

+1. I see this every time I go into the Options area - even if doing nothing.

Both regular Options and Playback options close without fuss if I open them and then press "X" without making any changes.

So, what's diffferent between myself and JimH, and lepa, Vocalpoint and Soundwave?

Tested on a regular MC instance. Does it make any difference if the MC instance is a client?

You can click never show me again.

You could also simply click OK or Cancel and it won't ask.

Ok - here something interesting - I just tested this 10 secs ago

Test 1

Open Options - do nothing - click OK - get NO message

Test 2

Open Options - do nothing - click X - get message

@Matt - not seeing the options you describe. My messagebox is quite frankly - massively confusing and poorly worded as shown below...

Go figure.

That's how it works.  We consider the dialog close button ambiguous.

But since you can tick to never ask again, I think we've got everyone covered.

What you have here makes no sense - if the system thinks clicking the X button is a "change". Far from it.

But I will click the option to dismiss and leave this alone.

We don't have a way to check for changes, so we always ask.  There are too many varying options pages to make a way to check now.

So it always asks if you just click the X.

But like I said, click a button or click to never ask again.
