Title: Gapless playback?
Post by: DTF on September 20, 2021, 04:48:20 am
Hi
I am streaming from the jriver media network server (UPnP/DLNA) to my Linn Klimax DS/3 and Oppo 205 renderer. I have noticed that there are a 1-2 second gap between tracks that should not be there.

How to enable gapless playback in my streaming situation? Is it possible at all?
Regards
Dag

Try running AndrewFG's Whitebear Media Renderer Analyser app and it'll tell you if gapless playback is supported by your equipment.

Will try it. I assume it should be installed on my media server.

Using Asset UPnP server I get gapless playback with my Linn renderers.
I don’t remember if I tried Asset with my Oppo 205.

Using Roon I get gapless playback.

If I'm not mistaken the Oppo 205 is only capable of gapless playback over USB or SMB, but not DLNA/UPnP. That was certainly the case originally, I guess there could have been a firmware update addressing that at some point, but I don't think so.

Bump

My media server is running Windows 10.
The connections of server and renderer is to my local network, and via ethernet cable only.
My renders are Linn Klimax DS/3 and Oppo 205.
One album that I tried is Madonna Confessions on a dance floor. It is stored on on my server.

Gapless playback work fine with Asset UPnP server software and my Linn DS. I don’t remember if I have tried Asset with the Oppo.

Check the server to make sure it's not converting the format.

That's still the case. It doesn't support gapless playback via DLNA.

The Linn uses Openhome extensions to DLNA. We do not.
We support gapless playback if your device supports the SetNextAVTransportURL command in DLNA.
The Oppo for example does not.
I would suspect the Linn doesn't either since they initiated the Openhome protocol.

Run the DMRA from my sig, and you will find out.

I have run the test and none support the protocol you indicated.

I guess I have to stick to Asset UPNP, Roon, etc.
