Title: Tag window. Cover Art changes are not saved to files.
Post by: tarking on September 27, 2021, 02:22:12 am
MC 28.0.66:

Select all tracks in an album. Open Tag window. Click "Remove Cover Art". Wait tag changes to be written to files...

If you did this in a library view MC shows that tracks no longer have cover art. Cover art is however still inside the file. I checked this in two different ways: 1. using HxD (hex file editor) and 2. using MC: i.e. drag & drop the files to Player window and select the files and MC shows that cover art is inside files.

Select files. "Remove Cover Art" then "Add From File...". Replace with a totally different image. New cover art is shown. However it has not been written to a file. Drag & drop the files to Player window. Original cover art is displayed not a new one.

The problem is that I cannot change cover art using MC anymore. I have Sony DAP which cannot display  progressive jpeg images (thank you Sony!) so I used to have a workflow: extract cover art, use XnConvert to convert progressive jpeg image to baseline jpeg image and use MC to change the cover art.

I have tried "Also store image in the file's tag" disabled and enabled, "Do you also want to permanently delete the cover art files from your hard disk?" with "Yes" and "No", "Clean Cover Art Folder..." and all different options under "Audio mode:".

I just removed cover art from one of my APE files.  I looked at the tags in the Monkey's Audio tool before and after the change and the image sure enough disappeared.

Is it only certain files or file types?  If it's only a certain file, you could mail a copy to matt at jriver dot com and I could try to reproduce.

Thanks.

All my files are FLAC. Looking at the tag information using HxD tags have been created originally by a mutagen 1.44.0 library.

this behaviour i also had some times, by music (all flac)  and movie too.

Sometimes only solution is to delete file (clear in library) and restart mc, then it will be loaded new with new cover art

Read only files?  Copied (not ripped) from a CD/DVD?

Not write protected. Just checked. And not copied from CD/DVD. How can I get one sample file for you to inspect? Maybe something wrong with the FLAC tag format in the file? By mail to Matt? Zipped?

EDIT: Modified date changes so can not be write protected... just something I forgot to mention...

Sent one file to Matt by email to inspect. Hope it will come through!

Thanks for the file.  I can reproduce the problem.  I think we're only removing one type of picture, but checking for a couple types of pictures on import.

Should be fixed next build.  Thanks again.
