I've been around a long time and was using JRiver Media Jukebox for a while before it became the MediaCenter. In all that time I've never had a clue the use, reason or even the need for the .mjr file.
Today I updated from v27 to v28 and was downloaded after payment a .mjr file and not the new JRiver MediaCenter program itself. This prompted me to again wonder what is this? Is a mjr file helpful in any particular way?

It's your license file. MC usually automatically installs it for you from your restore code, but if you need to install it to multiple PCs then the .mjr file can be used just by copying to to the other PC and double-clicking on it.

Also the .mjr license file is only good for 14 days after it's created.

Google is a good place to ask questions like what is an mjr file.
Licensing is explained here:

Sorry....I stopped using Google a long time ago. They are simply 'WOKE' / 'Karen' types that are trying to ruin America. They're racist and bigoted tools. Anyway: I tried the mjr file again...and nothing. It said something about update reg file or some such thing. I brought up my v27 JRiver and nothing change. Again what on earth is a mjr good for? I manually went and downloaded version 28 entered the code it sent me into the program and is running fine. So mjr file does what? Pretty much still the same nothingness I guess. Thank you.

I mean, I literally told you what it is and what it's for.
