Do you use an amp - or direct from Soundcard.

Headphone aficionados all say you need to buy a dedicated headphone amp. (so of course, like a lemming, I did)  However, I couldn't tell much difference between it (Creek OBH-11) and the TEAC stereo amp I was plugging into before.

As for plugging right into a sound card, I'm not sure.  The jack on my stereo-link USB soundcard sounds horrible.  Some sound cards may have better on-board amps -- I'm not sure.  Also, some headphones are more power hungry than others. (Senn's need quite a bit of power)

So, not sure if that helps.

I can tell you that I just love my Senn's.  I'd recommend them to anyone (and if you're considering Grado, don't).  Of course, just one monkey's opinion...
