I was editing Titles and Artists in Properties because I didn't like the way YADB had them formatted.

Anyways, the artist name I wanted was in the Title field.  So I selected the artist name part and pressed Ctrl+X.  The selection did not disappear from the Title field, but was copied to the clipboard.

Also, after editing the title field, I clicked on the Artist field and changed it with no problems.  But, if I clicked on the Title field again to edit it, it would revert to the orignal Title and not remember what I had edited.  If I did not click on the Title field again, all was fine.

This has been going on for a bit but in my Audio section, I have an (unassigned) category even though I have nothing in it.  Deleting it doesn't seem to get rid of it.

Ohhh...

The window that does ripping still has the old diamond-shaped blue icon in it's upper-left hand corner.  I like the new icon version, especially for bigger versions.  The littlest rendering of it, tho, looks a bit muddled.  I understand, tho, if nothing can be done about it because it's just a scale-down.

Overall, great stuff!

Unable to run 9.0.135 once installed. I get no error messages, yet for a while W2K thinks its running because I can see the new logo when I hit <alt+tab>. I clicked around on the desktop to see if it was just not visible, but couldn't find it. Without ending the process, it ended on its own after about a minute or two. Uninstalled v135 & reinstalled previous version.

View Filter....

When any view other than "show all files" is selected, it would helpful to have a visual indication of the current view (other than a checkmark down in the ViewFilter menu).

I think previous MC9 versions had this, but I'm not sure.

If I'm just overlooking the indicator, please point it out.

Thanks.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but it's still a problem for me.

If I recall correctly, after ripping in MJ8 there's a popup that shows track quality (e.g., 100% means no sampling problems).  There's a similar screen in EAC.   But I haven't seen any such screen in MC9.   Someone mentioned that this should work when ripping in secure mode, but I do use digital secure and I don't see it.

It's important to have this feedback available, at least as an option

When renaming TV stations, then using Media scheduler to record a TV show from that station you renamed, it records from a different station.

The only way all stations are correct is if you don't rename anything and leave it like Channel 1, Channel 2  etc.

Minor flaws:

Gridlines do not align with column tabs.

Cursor doesn't change when trying to resize the windowed mode of file properties. Maybe not an MC glitch? ? ?

During install the icon for media center is still a jukebox.

New icon, btw, is very nice. Please do not let this one get run over by a truck.  ;D

I just tried it. It works for me. I renamed my "Channel 7" to "ABC 7" Media Scheduler recorded correctly.

BUG:

I have noticed a major problem with cover art.

Once it find cover at for one album of one artist, it uses the same cover art for all that artist's albums. IE. Enrique Eglesias. All his albums are getting the same cover art assigned to them.

Also, Give and option for selection from a list of different cover art - like MMJ uses. please!!  ;D

7. Fixed: Media Center was failing to display file format info and internal images if file was located on a CD.

Almost there with this, MC is now displaying the images from the files in properties but not in visualizations. Also still not showing the format info.

Also Still Open
2. Can't seem to create a View Scheme that will show a CD of mp3's in the tree by Volume Name/Filename. Files on hard drives show correctly under this scheme but the CDs do not show the folders below the root at all. The correct path is shown in the database.

3. When in window mode the file properties window gets lost under the Media Center window when another track is clicked in the library. Should at least have an option for "Always on top".

Hasn't happend for a couple of builds so I'll call it fixed.
Resizing Media Center horizontally in mega-me mode intermittently causes album art being displayed in a visualization to revert to the the MJ Surfer. (Art is inside MP3 file)

New request/comment:

I think it might be better to change "Delete" back to "Remove" on the right click menu in playing now. Everytime I use this I have to stop to make sure I am not about to delete from the database. I think this would really confuse someone new to MC. Or maybe change to "Delete from playlist" to make it less confusing.

Bugs:
1. Rename from File Properties no longer works...gives 'Failed to update the following files...' for all files I attempt to rename.  No, this is not a read-only problem.

2. Locate on disk (external) no longer works either...always points to MC's default Data directory.

(note:  both bugs were noticed on files not imported into MC, but in Playing Now's playlist...stopped mode)

(update: went back to 9.0.133 and these two operations worked fine...so, 9.0.135 is broke)

3. The tray icon does NOT look near as nice as the small Quick Launchbar icon or taskbar icon...the tray icon is just, well, ugly.

Matt:
How do we control (make stick) the sort order for My Computer nodes/folders?  Resorting via column heading clicks does not stick...MC always resorts back to some default (by Artist it seems) when you return to My Computer nodes/folders you viewed just previously.

;)
Sorry, but I found another small glitch.

After I ask MC to get cover art from the internet, the propterties tool box dessapears and/or moves to the side of the library listing.
I am not sure if it does this with getting art from a stored file on the computer because it doesn't always work.

I am sorry I always remind you about cover art because I know you work hard on everything. If it is low priority now I also understand. I just hope that it is ok to bring up this topic once in a while.

Also, the bugs are real so I guess they are important.  ;)

Well, keep up the good work.
Oh, I love the new icons for media center. They looked very professional.

Title: Re: Wacky changing context menu
Post by: dougc on March 27, 2003, 07:52:42 pm
The ever changing top items on the right click context menu in the mega-me track display are somewhat annoying.  Play and Add To Playing Now would seem to be the most frequently used functions from that menu.  They are easily dropped off the top level by doing other stuff.  Even bringing up the About box or System Info from the Help menu will push them down.

I'd suggest locking Play and Add To Playing Now at the top then have the most recently used below that if you want.

Thanks.

Ripping Still Doesn't work.  I haven't been able to rip since about .129.  HOw are things going on the new drive access layer and when will I get to start ripping again?  Actually, I can rip from my laptop, but not from my main music server.  Details of my (non-ripping) server machine are below.  Any work-arounds?

Morning folks.........
TV and video playback are working this build (phew)
Bug: When changing channels via the right-click menu, the channel info (above the play button) is not updated. (start watching channel 10, right click screen, change to channel 2. Player control still says 10, and clicking 'next' moves to channel 11, not 3)

Much Bigger Bug - (Should I start a new thread about this one?)
I cannot access my disc drives in this build either. All the same errors as before.
MC correctly shows the cd in 'My Computer' and 'cd,dvd, handhelds' in the tree, just can't actually do anything with the files. I've tried everything I can think of to get this working, and failed.
[Q] Would the fact that my plexwriter is running PI/0 mode and the DVD in DMA mode2 have any bearing on this? (plextor master, DVD slave) The plextor doesn't officially support DMA, but there is a "jumper hack" that can be used to force the issue.

Bug - or not?
I uninstall before upgrading. The first thing I do is run through the options panel. I start @ the top and work down. Eventually, I arrive at the encoding options. I choose mp3 for my cd ripping and MC throws a dialogue about 'go getting the plugin'. In a few seconds, I get a box informing the plugin was installed correctly. As soon as I click OK to this message, MC shuts down. Then, when I go back into options, none of the settings I'd made before arriving @ encoding options have been saved. I have to start all over again. It's been like this a while now so I'm wise to it and do the mp3 plugin 1st, wait for the shutdown, then do the rest. Gotta tell you though, it's either one extremely irritating lil' bug, or if by design and MC needs to restart, can't it wait till the options box is closed, saved the settings made, then inform the user that it needs to restart to finish installing the plugin?

9. Fixed: MC did not remember last used options page.
Mine's still not remebering.

11. Fixed: Menus would stay "pushed" while in modal dialogs.
Mine stay pushed, and when I exit the dialogue, the button goes into 'mouse over' mode

[Q]There are various skin related bugs around atm. Would having StyleXP (which replaces uxtheme.dll *i think*) installed have any effect on MC's skinning?

Doh, I guess I should search this thread before posting. I see Doof, RemyJ and ZRocker have all reported this bug already.

Bug:

The renaming of files from their properties is broken.  Here's what I did which didn't work:

1. Connected iPod to PC and selected 2 albums to download to the PC, "The Soul Cages" and "Ten Summoner's Tales" both by Sting. These downloaded to the C:\My Music folder and were correctly named by the iPod plugin.

2. I imported the new tracks into MC. They were displayed in the database correctly and could be played.

3. Selected both albums and chose the "Rename files from properties" option.  I deselected the "Directories" check box and selected the "Filename" check box and set the rule to [ARTIST]\[ALBUM]\[ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]. I then selected OK.

4. MC displayed an information dialog which said "Failed to update the following files" then listed all the tracks with their new file names, ie C:\My Music\[ARTIST]\[ALBUM]\[ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME].mp3. MC also updated the database entry for the files so that the file location was set to this too.

When I try to play the tracks, MC is unable to find the files.  This is because they are still in the C:\My Music folder.  I reproduced the problem with files that were already in my library as well.

I have used this method to transfer my music library from my iPod to my work PC last week using an earlier build of MC with no problem at all.

My system configuration is as follows:

Tool Menu
Whem installing v134 and v135, I realize that I cannot pull down the TOOL menu.  MC hangs for awhile and recovers without the TOOL Menu.  When I restored v133, it works again.  Please help resolve this bug.

I notice that there is a report on visualization studio.  I would like to add:

If I try to use the Wizard to set Image File = <empty>, although I tick the relevent box, it does not save the setting - I am left with an empty clause.

If I use the Edit (by Typing) option, I can set it - but then I get nothing matching - even though it has matches on the provided SmartList!

Web Radio Playback
I am still unable to play anything except some of the Featured Stations - I get the Warning Dialog box saying 'Please select file(s) to play'.
If it is relevent I am working through ICS on Win2k

Duration Mismatch
If I look at a specific Album in Media Library, I am told that the total duration is a little over 1 Hour, but if I then tell MC to Burn a CD of the Album, it tells me that it will fit on a single CD (98% of 74 minute CD). Having burnt the CD, all the tracks are there!
What gives ?  If it is relevent, I have not specified that it should delete silence.

All the best

If I recall correctly, after ripping in MJ8 there's a popup that shows track quality (e.g., 100% means no sampling problems).  There's a similar screen in EAC.   But I haven't seen any such screen in MC9.   Someone mentioned that this should work when ripping in secure mode, but I do use digital secure and I don't see it.

It's important to have this feedback available, at least as an option

Ripping /   Drive D:   Copy mode:ModeSecure   CD Type:Auto   Read speed:Max
 Drive E:   Copy mode:ModeBurstBigBuffer   CD Type:IDE   Read speed:Max
Digital playback: Yes /  Use YADB: Yes /  Get cover art: No /  Calc replay gain: Yes /  Copy volume: 32767
Eject after ripping: No /  Play sound after ripping: No

I notice that you only have drive d: set to secure mode. Is that the drive you're ripping with?

Ripping Still Doesn't work.  I haven't been able to rip since about .129.  HOw are things going on the new drive access layer and when will I get to start ripping again?  Actually, I can rip from my laptop, but not from my main music server.  Details of my (non-ripping) server machine are below.  Any work-arounds?

I cannot access my disc drives in this build either. All the same errors as before.
MC correctly shows the cd in 'My Computer' and 'cd,dvd, handhelds' in the tree, just can't actually do anything with the files. I've tried everything I can think of to get this working, and failed.
[Q] Would the fact that my plexwriter is running PI/0 mode and the DVD in DMA mode2 have any bearing on this? (plextor master, DVD slave) The plextor doesn't officially support DMA, but there is a "jumper hack" that can be used to force the issue.

I'll start a separate thread entitled "CD ripping/playback problems in recent builds"

1) When importing MP3's (wav's too) a cover art image is always attached and on top of that is not user selectable (always picks a file called punky.jpg). Does not do this with ogg's.

2) I see no way to set default sorting (multi-column) like you could in MJ v8. In v8 I would set sort as follows: Artist - Album - Type - Title - Track #. This, of course, would be applied to all lists except for straight playlists, Top Hits, Rec Played, and Rec Imported.

3) If I use Tools>Import Media and import files, a dynamic "Recently Imported" list appears directly under Playlists. If I send a new file to MC via File Manager or a Explorer window it does not (though the new entries do appear in the RI's under Auto Smartlists (music)).

I'm unable to add TV channels as favorites.

When I add a channel to my favorites list, it shortcuts to the "TV Tuner" node itself, rather than shortcutting to the actual channel.

Is this a bug, or done by design?  If it's by design, it's a bummer; I know we're not supposed to be asking for new features at this point, but as a heavy MC-TV user, it would be totally awesome if I could put my favorite channels in the Favorites list.

4) Audio burns work great w/ Yamaha F1 (USB external) except I told MC to play a wav on completion (which it didn't). FYI: No DSP applied on burn (don't take that wrong...I told it NOT to apply).

5) When doing a drag & drop (to reorder) in a playlist...the horizontal track splitter does not show up as it does in v8.

On the whole, excellent progress on a fine program :)

I reported it awhile ago, and it just happened again.  If I leave a song paused for a long period (10 minutes plus), clicking play again causes the application to hang.

- Get cover art from scanner selection brings me fine to
the scanning menu to my scanner, but with skinning turned on, the scanning result is corrupted - the scanning content screen is just grey. With skinning turned off, it is ok.

- After scanning cover art,  I hit the play button, and MC gave a media core error and crashed.

MC 9.0.135
*NEW
- 9.0.135: Open a r-c menu in mini-me. Alt-tab to another program. Clicking the minime will not restore it from transparency.
*OLD
- 9.0.129: When browsing for Properties - image, the bottom scrollbar is missing. Happens only in some folders (E:\Music2\_Album\, but not in E:\Music2)
- 9.0.129: Sticky views sorting doesn't work with smartlists (Tested: New smartlist,[media Type]=[Audio] [Number Plays]=>=1)
- 9.0.129: If you select a file in playing now, right-click and reshuffle, the same position (not the same file) is selected...plus the first song! Select more and the POSITIONS are marked
*ANCIENT
- Double-click on a song in Explorer. If Properties - "Import automatically.." is not checked, the 'Date imported' (in the properties window) is set anyway to when the song is played.
- Quick Play. If you scroll down, the list continues to scroll until the end of the list. Seems to happen when you go through all files (a VERY big list)
- In Mini-Me, MC doesn't display cover art (Display: None) when transparent unless MC's transparent when song changes
- Sticky views doesn't remember sort order in 'Recently Imported' or in 'Playing Now'. Suspects that 'Seq' overrides.
- Can't search for '&' in search panel
- 'Last played' and 'Number of plays' logic wrong. Changes the song to +1 directly past 50% instead of waiting until song is stopped/next is played. Compare with how it worked in MJ8 before MC beta, that's the way it SHOULD work.
- Auto Smartlist "Top Hits -- haven't heard for over a year" doesn't include numberplays keyword, so it really doesn't show any "Top Hits". Same issue for "Top Hits -- listened to today"
- The slider in File Properties flickers between skinned and windows standard when dragged or clicked
- Media Center is named Media Jukebox in Task Manager - Processes
- View Scheme doesn't work with Date Imported. Shows the different date in the tree, but nothing under each item (search panel shows: [Date Imported]=[16 days, 10 hours ago]...perhaps it should convert to a date?). With grouping, it only shows 0-9...
- Bug with resizing MC. You can't resize Mega-me at all after doing the following steps:
1. Select a smartlist
1. Right click on an item in the search panel and select "Edit by typing".
2. Try to resize MC. It doesn't work until you change view to another playlist or scheme.
Alt+TAB after trying to resize MC also shows a hidden window "JRiver Playback Engine Window"
- Copy/paste in Search panel, you can't select a single item and copy it, nor paste it. Copy/Paste only works with whole string
Haven't tested, but not reported as fixed:
- Installer doesn't remove old install entries in add/remove programs. (media jukebox entry) Can't check, have made a reinstall of Windows, please confirm
- Undo doesn't work when pasting from one search panel to another
*OTHER
*FIXED
- Holding mouse pointer about a cm over the player window, a tooltip pops up saying "Current file (double-click for properties / right-click for Send-to)". Assume this only should appear if the pointer is directly on top of the player window. Seems to happen only when MC's skinned
- Clicking Tools - Skin Manager puts the skin window behind MC

Mentioned this a couple of builds ago, and it's still happening.  In Media Scheduler, I schedule a new recurring task to record TV, and Scheduler crashes.  I've narrowed it down a little, if the duration of the schedule is 9 minutes or less, it doesn't crash.  But if it's any more than that, scheduler crashes.  Is this a setting that i have somewhere?  I haven't seen anyone else mention it and I've seen other posts about scheduling recordings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Multimedia keys not working properly
______________________________

I got a Dell Inspirion 8100 notebook with Multimedia keys (AccessDirect-keys).

This feature works nicely for Musicmatch Jukebox or Windows Mediaplayer. However, it's doesn't work properly with MC9. The commands send by the keys are executed in MC9 but in addition the windows cd-player 'cdplayer.exe' gets started.

Can't connect to media server
________________________

I'm running Media Server on a Windows XP machine.
I can't connect with my laptop using Win 2K through my local network. I get 'Failed to find local Media Server'

Question: Favorites
________________

I'm using several libraries. If I bookmark a 'Favorite' it will show for all libraries, even when it's not in the library. Shouldn't the 'Favorites' work library  based?

BUG:
Right Click on a file > Locate > In disk ( Inside MC ) Works ( External ) Don't work, it keeps saying that the directory don't exist but it's there

6) Setting dbl click behavior to "Add to Playing Now (play next)" does not behave the same way as selecting a file, right clicking, then selecting Play>Add (as next to play). Currently when your in Media Library and dbl click on a file, not only is that file added but so is every track below it.

7) MC is now a little too aggressive about importing into the DB...that is, it is including tracks from audio/data CD's and Web radio stations.

PS: For future reference, should I edit/append previous bug posts or create a new one like I have been?

Minor frustrations/possible bugs

1. For many builds now, MC hasnt been showing the vertical bar when moving files up and down playlists. Makes it quite frustrating to place them accurately. I havent changed my video settings/drivers in ages.

2. Use of the venerable Ctrl-Ins/Shift-Ins instead of Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V for copying and pasting now seems inconsistent. It appears to work copying an entry in a playlist but not in text boxes/file properties etc.
