My MacBook Pro MC28 instance just crashed while playing a playlist. I'm attaching the MacOS crash report, in case it's of any use to the developers.
-
I too am having a lot of issues with crashing while running auto import and/or audio analysis. Last time it crashed I was playing a SACD file and doing nothing else. Played for a few minutes, analysis had already been done, and still failure
-
Can't say I am having a lot of problems. This was the first crash in a long, long while and I am playing music constantly with MC28. So this is definitely an outlier and probably not a bug but something weird that went on in my set-up. I just posted it in case the developers want to have a look and may see something useful in the crash report.
-
If either of you continue to have crashes, you should turn on JRiver logging. See the controls and instructions in MC's menu: Help > Logging
Once that's turned on MC will collect a log continuously. Then, once a crash happens, you go back into the logging menu and "collect log" which will produce a zip file. You can then attach that zip file to a post here, or email it to the developers directly (if they request it).
The MC log file has lots of internal details to help pin down what's going on.
If you are getting crashes during import and/or analysis, the log file will normally tell you the exact file that is causing the crash, as it will be one of the last lines in the log file. This is somewhat common with damaged digital media files. I've seen it dozens of times both in my own collection and in many many reports here.
Good luck to both of you.
Brian.

Thanks Brian,
I actually had logging on but the size of the log, even zipped, is too big to upload. I'll limit the size of my logging file for the future.
-
Brian that's super helpful thank you. Just turned logging on now.

Follow up. I read the troubleshooting guide and saw that a potential problem is when the library is stored on a slow external drive, which it was. I started a brand new library on the local drive (files are on an external), and still crashed. New log attached.
-
Sam,
You should attach the entire zip file. Or if you really want, the "Previous log.txt". It's weird, but here's how it works:
The crash happens and the log ends right there after the crash. Then MC starts back up, and you tell it to collect the logs. So the "log" in that zip file is the log of MC right AFTER it restarted following the crash. The "previous log" is the one where the crash happened. That's where all the good stuff is.
Brian.

Yours crashed on a lock which seems pretty odd.
Sound like memory might be getting overwritten.
-
Roger that thanks. So I think what I'm supposed to upload is now included

I don't see any playback going on in there, just some TV stuff. What were you doing when it crashed?
-
On that one I uploaded I was literally doing nothing. It just quit. I've added a few more from around the same time. This one was collected right after I attempted to do create a new library from the same media that kept crashing on the old library.

It looks to me like it's trying to update a television EPG. You have one setup? Which??
-
Oddly enough I'm just plugged into a monitor and not trying to setup a TV at all. Here's an alternate crash log trying to read the same media from a different computer (Mac mini instead of MacBook Pro)

It sounds like auto-import is failing on a bad file but I'm not seeing it in the log.
Can you turn off auto-import and see if that stops the crashing?
On a new machine if you haven't run it before you'll have to disable it in options (run auto import on empty library). Search for empty in settings.

I upgraded my OS to 11.6 and can't open MC28. It crashes the moment I launch it.
I'm attaching the crash log:

Ok I re-downloaded MC and yes, it does work now. Thanks!
