Ever since build 122 it takes 75 seconds to load the program. At once I get a white screen with "Media Center" at the top and the menu showing fine, but no tree pane or file pane details. There is the vertical line which will divide the two panes but nothing else. 75 seconds later all listings come into place.
This has been like this since build 122 which was the last one that loaded almost instantly.
Can you offer any solution to this problem? Thank you.

Is your Internet connection a dial-up? Does the problem occur even if you are connected?
I'm asking because I'm wondering if MC is checking for updates (you can uncheck that option) or trying to download new web pages and failing.
Is it a local library?
-
Turn Off Auto Resize Cols If That's On To See If It Helps.
-
JimH, connection is by cable, always on and fast, Check for updates is unchecked.
King Sparta, I did have auto resize columns on, took it off, exited the program, then reloaded. But there's no change - still 75 seconds to load.
Thanks to you both, please try again.

How big are your database files? ( jmd files in the MC program directory/data )
-
My library is fairly large and has grown slightly since build 122 worked quickly, but there was a sudden change in loading time from 122 to the next and subsequent builds.
mediafile.jmd 8,964,598 is the figure I found after checking.
-
Are any of the other jmd files very big?
-
Just Tested It on My System
It Took 4 Seconds to Load MC9
Microsoft Windows XP Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
Intel Pentium 4 1799 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 522 MB, Free - 214 MB
My C Drive Is Automatically Defragged 2 times each week
All Windows XP Skins Are Turned off And Optimized For Speed.
mediafiles.jmd Is 50.5 MB (53,042,440 bytes)
My MC9 Also Opens Up Onto "Start" And Not On Media Library (and that may slow it down a bit)
-
Tell it to start in Media Library.
Also, try renaming your .jmd files to .old jus to see if it's the library slowing it down.
If it is the library, please send a copy to matt @ jriver.com (no spaces)
Thanks!
-
Matt, when I renamed the .jmd files to old, loading the program became instantanious.
Will attempt to send the mediafiles.old file to you.
And thanks.

I asked this in email too, but in case you're looking here:
Is it slow to switch views (Media Library to Playing Now to TV, etc.) after MC is loaded, or is it only slow to load the first one?
Thanks.
-
As in my email to you Matt, all is now working just as it should regarding the slow loading. It now loads in less than three seconds and is fast in switching from playing now to recently imprted, etc. So thank you for getting me going again.
JimH and King Sparta, thanks for your contributions as well.

But what was the problem ?

But what was the problem
As far as we could figure, Gremlins.
-
Gremlins around or may be inside MC ?
Why nobody warned me before I buy it !
;D
