This may be a Windows issue, but any help is appreciated. I know I solved this a few years back, but it is here again and I am at a loss. Whenever I hover over a song title I get a square "baloon" giving me all the file info. This completely obscures the song title list, which is what I want to see. How do I get rid of this "baloon"?

It should disappear in a second or when you move the mouse.
It's called a tooltip and you can turn them off in MC's settings.

Doesn't disappear as long as cursor remains on item. So maybe not a "tooltip". And where can I find how to turn tooltips off? I did several searches on that word and found nothing.

The Options Page has a search window.
-
search for "Tooltips" gets no answer in this search field. If it helps, here is what shows up in one of these "Baloons" - actually more rectangular. It has small picture of album cover and then: 4. After You've Gone (4:13) 8 1/2 Souvenirs - Happy Feet (1995) WAV - 1411 Kbps - 42.7 MB - 16 bit - 44.1 kHz DISKSTATION\Music Folder\8 1/2 Souvenirs- Happy Feet - 04 - After You've Gone.WAV

What you are describing is an audio "track info" tooltip.
What is the full version number of MC are you using?
In MC, from the toolbar, open "Tools > Options"
In the options window that opens, there is a search box at the bottom. Enter Tooltip in there.
You should see one result. That is the setting you are looking to change.
