My old mid 2012 pc would play UK dvds even though I now live in the US.
Buying a new pc, I didn't have the option of a dvd drive with the case so I bought a pioneer portable blu ray burner. I guess as I have my setting to be British spelling and date, the pc thinks it's in the UK and has set the dvd to be region 2.
Everything I've read seem to indicate that there's no way to hack the setting in windows to be region free. I know all about the 5 change limit.
From what I've read, VLC allows you to bypass the encoding if you watch it using it's programme. However, I prefer to use JR 26 for it's superior video and audio playback. Does JR 28 support this or could it be implemented? I'd happy buy 28 if this will work.

While I don't have DVD's to test, you can set your region in MC's option. You should be able to test this with the free 30-Day trial.
