I've just upgraded from MC21 to MC28, and find MC28 can't read discs. I only have external drives.
Edition Windows 11 Home - Version 21H2 - OS build 22000.376
I've double checked setting and they do match between the two version. Spent a little time reading the forum, no joy.
Any ideas?

MC28 definitely works with USB drives. You don't have to do anything special.
What is happening that makes you say that?
-
The disc is correctly identified, but playback attempts result in about 1 second of modem-sound squeaks for each track.
I've tried multiple ports, 2 different players, checked drivers (although we have to remember that my MC21 install has no issue).
Maybe just an un-install and reinstall of MC28.

So you're playing audio. From what? A CD?
What are you playing to?
Describe how you start playback.
-
I sure appreciate your help -the answer is yes, playing "CD"'s.
I don't understand the "playing to".
I am playing to the sound card output. All the settings are identical from MC21 to MC28. They are both outputting to "Direct Sound".
I've just found MC28 plays blu-ray just fine, from the same player it won't play redbook.
So the problem appears to be isolated to playing redbook CD's.
I start playback by inserting redbook CD into the reader\player.
MC28 is already running - I select "Drives and Devices" from the menu on the left.
I do see the correct CD info under the correct drive. I play it from there. Must I describe every click?
-
Try ripping the CD and playing the files you've ripped.
I think you must be trying to play the CDA files you see on the disc.
In MC under Drives and Devices, you should see the CD. Try selecting it and pressing the play button.
-
You are correct, attempting to play the CDA files from that Device Menu.
I have tried to rip, and it fails.
-
You can't play a CDA file from a CD. Play the CD.
I think you may be seeing some weird security problem. Windows Defender?
-
Ahh, ya Defender. Let me see what I can do there. Thank you.
Latest data point in image, this is the error message I get when attempting rip..
-
YOU NAILED IT.
I added jriver directory to the exclusion list, and the playback now works (after restart of MC28).
I haven't ripped yet, but I'm sure it will work.
Thanks so much for your help.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I did change install location - it's at d:\jriver rather than where Win11 wanted it.

I hate computers.
Glad it worked.
