Title: MC28 Youtube Adverts
Post by: John Ashdown on December 25, 2021, 04:38:37 am
Hi.

I updated to MC28 from MC26. The principal reason being that I watch Youtube a lot through JRiver - the graphic equaliser makes a huge difference to the percieved audio quality - and the improvements of the youtube interface in MC28 alone would have justified the upgrade cost but...........................

..........................................there were no adverts  when playing Youtube videos in MC26 (and still aren't 'cos I haven't uninstalled MC26 yet) and there are absolutely shedloads of adverts when playing Youtube in MC28.

I'm not crying too much about it cos obviously the workround is to watch Youtube on MC26 and listen to everything else on MC28 but  nevertheless I am curious to know why such an anomaly has occured and if it can be fixed.

Merry xmas btw

Media Center doesn't contain an adblocker, so it's strange that MC26 wouldn't have ads but MC28 does. Maybe it's related to the new Edge WebView2 engine being used.

Anyways, since there's no way to add extensions to the embedded web browser, the only way to block YouTube ads unfortunately is with a YouTube Premium subscription which requires one to login with a Google account, assuming Google hasn't blocked that yet in the WebView2 version of Edge.

Thank you Awesome Donkey. One life's mysteries that an improvement to anything - cars, IT software you name it - seems to bring with it another problem that wasn't there previously.

Happy new year to you
