I'm trying to use Media Server, but not having much luck.
When I search for Media Servers, it seems to find my server OK, but then immediately disconnect before the library can be sent over. I think the log below says it all. The sharing thread exits immediately.
Any advice much appreciated.

Oh yes, before you ask, both machines are running 9.0.124 and Win XP on a wireless network.
-
I have two machines, the server is xp, and the client is 98se. I have only just upgraded the sever to xp but now they won't connect The client finds the server but `cannot establish connection to the server` mesage is displayed.

I'm having a problem with Media Server where it won't authenticate. It just doesn't prompt for a user and password on the client side.
If I remove the username/password my Media Server works fine and my client can connect.
However, I really want a username/password as I have my router set-up to allow external connections.
I really hope they fix this soon as I reported it a few builds ago and I consider it a security risk.
I'm also confused because it was mentioned a while back that they were working on Media Server because something 'new' was going to be announced shortly - however, I haven't seen any new announcements...and now they seem to be working on the MC redesign.
Any idea guys when you are going to fix the Media Server problems ? It also doesn't report the statistics correctly.
Thanks (as always)

Thanks, for posting your problems guys. Does anyone out there have any advice on how to deal with these problems. In particular mine ;)

Skeet: I'm running 9.0.129 and it works for me. What port are you using? What other options? What is the network configuration?
rossp: make sure client and server are running the same version of MJ or MC.
retrospek: looks like a bug, I'll work on it.

Retrospek: try the next build (hopefully out tonight).

same build (130) of mc and the win98 client and xp server will not connect :(
MC has more bugs on 98 than on xp. Guess what you develop on?

Any translations?
I love the Last Transfer Date. I don't remember what I was doing then, and hope no-one else does, either.

Ah yes. December 31, 1969. In a way, the Sixties ended on that day.*

HTH - how old is the statistics data? Have you ever reset it? It looks like the file containing the data is corrupt. This could have happened if the file format changed in the past.
Anyone else having this problem?

It looks like the file containing the data is corrupt.
Is that a comment on my program or my Last Transfer Date behavior? (yukyuk).
Anyway, did reset and was able to stream this AM. Do recall some other comments about those strange hieroglyphics however.

I'll keep an eye out for this, let me know if it shows up again. I took a brief look, but couldn't find anything obvious.
Thanks,

JT:
(You may want to defer this till you refinish redoing whatever it is you're doing with MS.)
Remote playback is still very erratic. Can download and install OK, and if I begin by selecting a smaller number of files, for the most part it plays through them OK.
Trouble usually starts when I (1) stop playback of current list, clear and queue up a new group of files; (b) Add to playing now; (c) pause or stop, then re-initiate; or (d) attempt to play a longer queue of files.
At some indeterminate point, MC fails to initiate playback of the next file and gives me an error message stating that MC could not locate the selected file and to check the path. Attempt to play other files, MC goes into 'Wait' mode, nothing further happens.
Cannot find any common denominator (type, etc.). Files are all mp3 128 bitrate, from various sources (EMusic, Internet, etc.). No Martian messages in the MS log.
MC 132 at home, 128 in the office. System info (ignore 133 - I just installed it):
