Home Assistant is very popular, a media player integration for MC here would be very nice. Not sure if much has to be done on the MC-side, probably most on the HA-side, hence the question mark. A feature request for it was put in for it about a year ago, but it hasn't been implemented. If anyone here would make one, it would be great.

I agree. If I had the knowledge, I'd make an integration to HA. There are a few 3rd party integrations that get created, then assumed by the HA team, but there's also the community support for the integrations which is quite nice. HA has put a lot of attention on media recently, and the Plex integration is pretty popular: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/plex/
EDIT: Here's the information around developing an integration: https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/integration_events

Pretty sure I won't be ponying up $5k for a JRiver integration, but I'd be in for $20, ha:

A full integration for Home Assistant would be wonderful. I've cobbled together something that works for my current needs using Sonos integration, custom commands for my Sonance 12 channel amp, jriver MCWS, see attached.
The Sonos integration gives me cover art and playback control. I get power and volume with the custom commands sent from Home Assistant with the telnet capability, and finally 4 custom playlist buttons using the rest_command integration in Home Assistant and commands built from MCWS.
It's a bit of a Frankenstein's Monster solution but I get all the control and info I need much faster than before. In my kitchen the most common thing I do is play back the smartlist 4&5 stars. Previously I had load Gizmo, change zone from "here" to "kitchen" navigate to playlists, smartlists, 4&5 stars. Now I just load home assistant and press "5 Stars"

+1 for building a MC integration for Home Assistant. All of my smart home devices and automatons are controlled by Home Assistant. 100% local control. Have been using MC for 19 years and would like to incorporate it into the rest of my home automation. Not only as a DLNA renderer and server but also other MC features.
A HA developer just launched something called Music Assistant (https://github.com/music-assistant/hass-music-assistant). But I would much rather use JRiver's interface and features.
