Been using an external CD drive for the last year, with no issues in any way, and MC27 installed.
Upgraded to MC29 now, and installed that version 2 days ago. Since then, MC29 has repeatedly had issues with the drive:
- No CD in drive - error message received often (and there was a CD)
- When ripping, multiple times MC29 does not get the correct info on the current CD, but instead displays the disc/track data from the prior CD that was ripped. If I compare with the display of the CD from say Media Player, or MC27 they both display the correct content info. MC29 does not.
Have tried a multitude of things - disconnecting, re-connecting, reboot with and without CD drive attached. and while it did fix the issue first time (yesterday), now nothing helps.
This needs to be on your fix-list.

Could be antivirus.

Can't see how.
It worked in MC27, doesn't work in MC29, and still works fine in MC27.
If that's antivirus SW, it must read minds also....
So, if not that - how do I even fix it?? I mean, there are no settings I can think of that can affect a simple piece of PC gear....

A bit more info:
Just started MC29 again, and set it going ripping a new classical CD.
Halfway into 2nd movement, progress stuck on 15% - nothing happened. Drive still spinning, but no activity. Soon as I tried to cancel ripping, the rip details disappeared, and instead said 'No CD. Insert CD and press Rip...' (or something very similar).
So, it looks to me like MC29 suddenly lost connection to drive, for no apparent reason. It's a fairly new Asus Zendrive, btw - approx 3 mths old.
Now, in case you guys don't see any reason to dig into this further, let me know. I'll unload MC and request a refund.

Security software is probably causing the problem.
Please read the Windows Defender thread here.

MC had no known current problems with CD's.
