Title: Problem playing to Emotiva from Chrome
Post by: sbradley02 on April 11, 2022, 12:26:32 pm
I have been using a HTPC without issue for many years, attached directly to my Emotiva XMC-2. Recently I have experienced large audio/video sync issues. Nothing on the Windows side helped. Someone on the Emotiva forum suggested the following:

"May I suggest you download JRiver Media Center as a free one month trial (It comes with no tied-software or malware or bloatware and is 100% uninstallable) and enable Windows' WASAPI audio render instead of Direct Sound within JRiver. WASAPI is bit direct (Windows Audio Session API) and has none of the sample rate conversion or mixing of Direct Sound

"Then, by enabling JRiver's WDM Driver as the windows sound device, you can still use the JRiver audio engine to output all PC audio (from Edge, Chrome, Apps) to HDMI or USB using the WDM Driver built into JRiver to divert audio to HDMI/USB via WASAPI"

---
I did this, and it worked for one test. Now the JRiver playback device no longer works to play audio. Any ideas?

The sync issue probably has nothing to do with the WDM driver.

Please be more specific about what you're playing and how.

Yes, that is the one.
I try playing video from a streaming service in Chrome, I get no sound output. If I then check in Control Panel, and try the test audio in Properties, I also get no audio. The Emotiva shows up as the TV in Control Panel (per Emotiva this is working as intended). Selecting the TV as the output device works, both in the Control Panel test and via Chrome. The JRiver output device, which worked at first, now no longer does. No system changes in the interim.

To play through JRiver from any browser, you need to set up the WDM Driver.

Check your setup.

With WDM, JRiver acts as an audio driver, but you still must be sure that the audio output of JRiver is directed to a device that works.  Test audio playback from JRiver itself, without using your browser.

I set up the WDM driver to begin with. That is how I was able to get it to work originally. I used the reference you provided.
Playing from within JRiver works still.
