Title: Moving to new platform - Remove Test & Move to old library [Done&lightning fast]
Post by: Manfred on April 12, 2022, 04:24:50 am
I have created a test library on my new platform to test if everything works with MC 29 and specially the changed network. So far so good.

If I now wanted to move my Production library which is currently on the server to the new platform - how to do that?

1. Delete test library - How? Or should I remove MC 29 and make a new clean install on the new platform and then move to Step 2. ?
2. Restore the latest production library backup

The wiki has a topic on Moving Files.

The trick is to use exactly the same folder structure on the new machine.  Then a backup from the old machine can be restored on the new one.

Thank's JimH but the media files will stay on the old platform. In a first step I will only move MC Server and the library. So all file pathes will be the same. The media files will then move later this year or next year.

Done! - Everything works fine so far. It was simple. I did a fresh MC 29 install, configure audio, video, Restore latest backup, rebuild thumbnails.

And MC run's now on my 1TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe x4 M.2 SSD.  ;D

The Samsung SSD with pcie 4.0 is lightning fast:
Time for 256 MB file on library / rip drive (C:) to make / read: 0,091 / 0,083 seconds

compared to my old 64 GB Transcend MTS400 M.2 SATA
Time for 256 MB file on library / rip drive (C:) to make / read: 1.089 / 0.486 seconds
