I just started playing with the Media Server function between two computers on my home network and it's pretty slick.
Does anyone know if its possible to make this work through my gateway so I can access my library from work???
Thanks,
Kevin

You need to check your router config and enable the virtual server to map your wan ip to the lan ip you are using. This feature can be called by many names. ;)
-
You may find that your router needs to map specific ports unless you want to move the whole PC outside of the DMZ...
What port does Media Server use ??
-
80, 8123
-
Was not able to get working on port 80 for some reason. I even tried direct connection from cable modem to computer with no software firewall.
I was able to get working on alternate port however and this does work with IP forwading through router for that port.
Thanks for the help, though my company may not appreciate me having access to my entire music collection from work ;)

if your using something else like IE it may be in use and it should go to 81 or another port, you can set this in the config for media server.
-
I also had problems when I tried to enable Authentication. The client would just immediatly fail to connect when I selected the remote library. I did not see any way to configure username and password in Library Manger and just figured it would prompt for login info when you connect but that was not the case for me.

this reminds me, if gateley ever came back and is he working hard on the media server thing like JimH said he would when he gets back.

Does it not work? It works here, but I can't connect to yours.
Both sides must be running the same build of MC.
-
>> Does it not work?
well last time someone connected, it did not work correctly
Speed, Status & duration was broken
Something was wrong since 9.0.126 update, it opened two Media Servers.
24.88.229.242:80
someone tried last night but they never got thru. Like you said who knows if they were running the same version.
it would be nice if during the handshake media server and the user connecting thru MC\MJ it would report the version and if it is not the same tell the user what version they need to be running.

it seems i can connect local, but not thru the internet

I had same version on both computers, 9.0.123. I'm waiting a few builds before moving forward but I'll try again then. Even though I have not been able to use the password feature, Media Server has been working really well.
