I would like to commit 20mb of ram to the buffer, about 20 minutes of -q 4 oggs, so that the HD does not need to be accessed all the time.
As of now, the maximum buffer size is 5 seconds.
In the future, can we set the buffer to be much larger?
PS great product

I second that. Sometimes I have three simultaneous "playing now" (media server and two clients) so I would like reduce HD head moves using a little bit larger buffer.

Also, a smarter buffer. I haven't played around much with this in MC9, but in most programs the buffer is "dumb" in that if you have a 20-second buffer, then the song starts playing 20 seconds after you hit play. This is of course ridiculous - the song should start (and stop) instantly, and the buffer should fill in the background to a limit of X seconds.

this is not a good reason, and really is no strain on the HD
a better reason is to maybe overcome some problems some systems may have from time to time.
a 20 meg buffer is a bit overboard

Not if you have 1Gig of DDR Ram like me King :)
My system is always busy with a LOT going on and frequent hard drive reads and writes. I dont mind commiting this much to keeping my soul calm from my lovely music! :)

Less HD access is a good reason if you want to consume less battery juice.
And I second the smart buffer comment.
