Ive just installed a new 120Gb hard disk. Feeling pretty good, as it required disassembling my PC to a degree unknown to me previously. This HD is going to be my media disk. Finally I can start ripping CDs again.
Ive copied the contents of my old media partition onto the new disk. The question is - if I edit my default library location in Library Manager can I point MC to the new disk without losing my Top Hits or Recently played smartlists?
-
if it is on another drive letter i think you may also need to do find and replace drive letter so the library knows what drive you moved the files too.
If you using MJ8 i do not think it has this option, but i can't remember.

First, create a target directory on your new drive. Then highlight all your tracks, right click on one of them, then select Move/Copy Disk File. Select Move and select your new drive/directory as the destination. Everything in your library will be preserved, only the file location will have changed. I'd back up your library in case something went wrong.

you can do this in MJ\MC after you select move, you can edit the path on the move box and MJ\MC will create the dir for you.

Thanks - Ill try this when I get home. I am using MC9 - posted this on the wrong board by mistake.

Just tested Move/Copy Disk file. Seems to work. Once they are moved Ill have to use Rename Files from Properties to reproduce my directory structure, but thats OK.
Thanks all and thanks KS for moving this thread.

well if you going to do that, you can just use the rename function and then you only need to do it once.
just make sure you have the drive & root path checked and all files will be under that and in the format you requested.
this way the files will be moved and put in the proper dir
