Title: What am I missing?
Post by: if6ws9 on September 04, 2022, 05:27:21 pm
I couldn't find the difference between the free version of JRiver and the paid version (maybe I didn't try hard enough), so I opted for the paid version. However, it seems that the video on a popular free player is better than what I'm seeing on JRiver. I'm only interested in playing 4k UHD Blu-ray discs, not ripping or anything else, just playing the discs. I have a 4k friendly drive and am using MakeMKV, I have a new Lenovo 9i laptop with a 4k OLED screen. Playing the discs isn't a problem but I am concerned about why the video seems better on the free player. Am I missing something in the setup with JRiver?

Uhh, there isn't a free version of JRiver Media Center. There's a 30 day free trial (that's fully featured without limits) but to use it beyond those 30 days it requires purchase of a license.

The *only* free player that comes to mind that JRiver once offered is Media Jukebox, but that was discontinued years ago and the last release of it was like 10+ years ago. It's not even downloadable nor available anymore.

So more information on what you mean by "free" in this case is needed, because JRiver doesn't offer any free player.
