Title: Renaming and Importing
Post by: mkelly on November 05, 2022, 05:24:20 pm
JRiver seems to use Windows "Title" as the "Name" to show.
I usually rename the names of songs that I rip from a CD to correct errors.
So looking at the Windows Explorer file names they are correct.
Yet when I look at them within JRiver the names are the older (incorrect) ones.
I tried deleting and re-importing with the same result.
I think that I have figured out that each song has a "Name" and a "Title" (in WIndows).
It does not seem that I can change the Windows TITLE. How do I get JRiver to use the "Name" in stead of the "Title"?

Take a look at Library Tools on the wiki.

MC uses Vorbis comments for tagging in the files. I do not believe Name is a standard tag. Vobis/ID3 uses Title for the track name and MC maps Title in the file to Name in its database.

To check what MC is seeing, click on tag and go to the bottom of the listing to Tag Dump.  Those are the tags that MC sees in the file.

You might try mp3tag to see if it sees both Name and Title.

Where are you seeing Name in the file tags - Explorer? How did the Name field get defined and entered? It may be just a Windows thing.

EDIT: It looks from your screen shot that the tracks may be wav files, which also may be a problem, since typically wav files do not support tagging, although it is possible to do so, but it is not standard.

Thanks. That makes sense and is consistent with the screenshots.

So, the library tool Fill Properties from Filename should be able to map filename(name) to the MC Name field.

EDIT : mkelley - You should be able to edit the Title field manually in Windows, although it is one Title at a time.  You need to do Update Library (from tags)  to get MC to see the change.
