Title: Norton Antivirus problem -- Zrocker and others

In the last couple of builds, people have reported performance issues with MC.  Zrocker reported that MC was checking the registry several times a second.  Others reported issues with mouse performance.

We checked out Norton Antivirus today and found that when MC checks the CD drive to see whether the disk has changed, Norton doesn't like it.

NAV is apparently defending against a possible boot sector on the CD.  

Since this is optional, if you have problems, can you try turning that off in NAV?  Just as a test.  We're trying to find a way around it, but you could help confirm that we're right in our theory.

Sorry.  If you have Norton Antivirus, please check the configuration and turn off the option.  I'm not sure what it's called, but it is looking for a boot sector on a CD.

Tonight's build, 124, is just out.  I'm not sure whether it fixes the problem we're talking about or not.

i was more refering to how would we know?

I seen Zrocker's list of accesses to the registry, i am not sure how he got the list or how i would know if this was a problem.

MC is definitely looping the registry.  ALthough it does not appear to be causng any slow down on my system my results show this :

Here's what I see on this Norton issue:
Didn't really notice it till it was brought up in this thread but using Qslice from the Win2k resource kit definately shows increased activity on the Norton Antivirus 2003 "navapsvc.exe" process when I have build 123 running.  This starts as soon as MC starts and stops when MC exits.

Also using the sysinternals diskmon utlity there also seems to bee some activity with MC looking for an invalid device? This also stops on MC exit.

Now the good news! ;D Both these behaviors seem to be gone with build 124.

Just my 2 censt for what it's worth.
