Media Center 9.0.123 beta is available.
Many things will crash and not work. If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

1. Fixed: Thumbnails would fail to be created for images on a CD.
2. Changed: "Date Created" (and "Year") will be filled from JPG EXIF information when possible.
3. Fixed: Sticky Views were not working for playlists.
4. NEW: Added "Make All Views Like Current" to right click of column header.
5. Fixed: Sorting would be silly after reordering columns.
6. Fixed: After failing to load a library, MC would not properly revert to the previous library.
7. Fixed: Playing Now would select both the playing file and the last selected files when switching to it.
8. Fixed: YADB track lookup would display a message box with a long number in it. (GUID)
9. Fixed: Inserting a data CD would cause a meaningless dialog box to pop up.
10. Fixed: Internet code should work better.
11. Fixed: Advanced ripping options weren't getting saved.

Cancel buttom has no effect importing a (large) MPL file (even clicking many times and waiting a long time). CPU is almost 100%.

BUG: Still problems with failing to connect to media servers and falling back to previous libraries. Try the following:
1) Search for local mediaservers. None available, so it falls back to previous default library.
2) Library Manager. Add a new mediaserver that's not available and exit.
3) Switch to the unavailable media server. It fails and trys to fall back to searching for local media servers instead of the default library. That also fails and you get the old, "Can't open a library. This is bad. I must die" message.

40 minutes importing image files through a MPL file and MC hasn't taken in account my 'cancel' yet. Moreover it does'nt display any information in order to know if it is importing or if it is in loop. It only displays "importing: M:\photo\album.mpl"...

Don't know exactly when ist started, but in .119 it worked. Missed .120. In .121 and .123 *.VOB-file playback is dead :'(. Get a message like "select a file to play". Reinstalled .119 now. Work again. By the way, chapter support (skip is already an improvement, but displaying it was better).
In generall MC seems to have problems with the audio part of a DVD. Discs with only (?) multi channel tracks are played back with some kind of a weird pitch shifting combined with a kind of swelling up and down of gain (strange ?). Would be great if you could fix it and put some more effort into DVD/VOB/IFO support.

Hi Matt,
Still having trouble with Volume control. I have Aureon (Terratec) and Extigy (Creative) sound cards on my Win XP (HP Pavilion)
The volume bar respond to changes to Master Volume if I change my master volume in other applications or from the control panel. However, I can't slide the volume control in Music Center.
I uninstalled my sound card drivers, my Music Center, then reinstalled by Aureon, and then Music Center. I still face the same problem.
Do you what I can check to provide more information to you?

Still having problems on my Win98SE machine. Jukebox responds sluggishly, and my mouse stutters when I move it around the screen. I have the latest mjextman.exe file and have turned "associate with audio CD's" off. Version .120 works perfectly no sluggishness.

Try turning off skins as a test. Turn off anything else you can think of.

1) When using media server to play images, get for some image directories the following error:
"Media Center encountered errors while trying toplay the last several files.
Please make sure that the path in MJ library points to the right location."
The files in the directories that do not work have very long filenames compared to those that work! Could be a reason! Is there a file length limitation with Media Server?
Did you know that you cannot only listen to music, but also display slide shows with media server? Works very well with the exception above!
2) Sticky views are not preserved across media server!

In build .123 this was fixed: Skinned scrolling would have problems in lists on non XP systems.
Can anyone explain what's skinned scrolling.

Sorting.. I can sort by Track #, But if you sort, buy track number, then by album, it does not sort to track number within album..
This may be a timing thing.. If I wait a minute, then it seems to work some times.

Sorting is a nightmare compared to the old way. Nothing is remaining sticky to the overall view scheme. PLEASE bring back the original option for sorting.
Or make it an advanced option that will let me choose what way I want things to be displayed: sticky vs. my way. I do not want go back to v8 because of ridiculous sorting logic. Sure it will be fixed, someday.
The view scheme should hold true for all files placed under that particular scheme, should it not? I have files that are now track# jumbled, year whacked and probably a few I have not yet discovered.
Can you tell I do not like this? Am I the only idiot that doesn't think this feature is necessary. Sorting worked exceptionally well before this came along.

Sorting is a timing thing.. count to ten, then click the next field. I don't like it either..

I CAN FINALLY DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL PLUG-INS!!!
All including WMA downloaded and installed. However, I couldn't get them through the automatic selection routine, i.e., select MP3 Encoder and the download process starts : "Do you want to download...", etc. That failed. But I was able to download and install from the web page.
Ripping didn't work until I changed to APE but I also turned off "Analyze Replay Gain while ripping" at the same time so that could have been it, also. I'll try that later.
I loaded and ripped a CD that was unknown to YADB and the track numbers came in weird: 10,6,3,4,5,2,7,8,9,1. I resorted them after ripping, named them and sent them to YADB.
We are making progress. Thanks for keeping at it.

Hmm,
Dunno if I was just lucky but sorting worked fine for me and really easily.
Just spend a minute playing with it and I think you'll all find it's not too complex.
I just kind of clicked away till it looked how I wanted it and it does it fine now with no problems. Works like a charm.

Thanks for adding: Make all views like current.
Could this be extended with a sub menu that has:
- Make all views show current columns
- Make all views use current sorting order
- Make all views use show current columns with current sort order.
Basically break it down so we can apply just the columns or sorting order or both if we want.
Possibly even include an option to make all views use current list style.
It might seem petty but sticky views are a great thing. Being able to apply particular features we like to 'all' views is really useful :)

Amazing--all the problems that came up with 121 and 122 are gone--specifically:
MC9 didn't destroy my library when I uploaded 123.
The sticky view thingy is working now.
Rip/encode working again--actually working better than ever--I always rip in digital secure, and it is noticeable faster this build (I even double checked to make sure I was still in the digital secure mode--it was sooo much faster).
If I click on recently imported, and I haven't imported anything, it still shows all my mp3's--I liked it better when it just came up blank, but it's not a big deal (The first time I saw this, two builds ago, I made the mistake of clearing it--I thought perhaps it was "leftover" flotsam and jetsam from previous download--it deleted my whole library. But, fortunately, I had backed it up prior to trying this. If I do import something and I click on recently imported, it works appropriately.

I bet IanH's problem is the same I reported in 9.0.122 thread...NAV 2002 (and greater most likely) and MC don't get along anymore and take your system's CPU to 100% for the live of the MC process. The looping registry key access problem has got to be fixed or many users will have to just top using any new versions of MC (like me...I'm stuck with MC 9.0.120 until the conflict with NAV is resolved). I would think there are millions of users using NAV and, thus, should be a high priority bug to get resolved.

Glissando (a third-party app that communicated with MC over TCP/IP using web_remote.dll) no longer works with the latest release of MJ 9. I had everything working great up through the .80s, but I recently tried .120 and then .123 and now I get a Visual C++ runtime error whenever I try to change the music with Glissando.
Any other MC9/Glissando .52a users out there?

1)Clicking a *.rm link downloads the file instead of streaming it. If I cut and paste the link in to "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
Clicking on a *.ram link does nothing. Again, if I cut and paste it into "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.
BOTH file types are registered under MC9 in IE Folder options.
2)Direct Sound only outputs to the front two channels bypassing the Audigy Surround Sound and digital effects software. If I attempt to use the MC9 DSP effects and JRSS, it does map to all of my 4 channels, but sounds like crap -- lots of crackling.
3)ASIO crashes about a minute into an internet audio stream (MP3 web radio), or if you click on another link while playing a stream.

Cannot Create Plug-In "Windows Media." Error 80040154
That was the error message I got when I tried to convert some mp3 files to Windows Media format in build 123 I just upgraded to. I tried to install the Windows Media encoder plug-in but I got the wrong package error message.
Could you please look into this and advise on what may be the cause.

I decided to submit the track info to YADB for the songs (MPC) I was currently playing in Playing Now. The audio freaked out and I got a couple of dialog boxes saying broken frames had been encountered. After clicking those away, MC decided to update the tags on ALL the audio files in my library! I don't think it actually changed anything, but there was no way to cancel out of it.

It seems that if you try to cancel an import of MPL file MC never return the control.

Sorting
You can make all views like your current by right clicking the column header and picking "Make all views like current"
Also, don't think in reverse anymore. To sort by album, then track #, click in that order. As someone mentioned, it's a timer thing.
Also, as Jim mentioned, we're still working on this. Please be patient.
Conflict with NAV
We don't know what this is. It could be a NAV bug. Any more details would help.

It's not safe to run multiple MPC decoders at once -- it's a limitation of the current MPC source code. (it's not well encapsulated) Other formats are fine. (MP3, WMA, APE, etc.) Talking to Andre or Frank might help -- I'm not sure.

I noticed In Recent Builds When You Save Info To "Lyrics" From The SDK MC9 Now Saves The Info Into The "Notes" Field.
As my Plug-In Chart And Lyrics Finder Tries To Save Lyrics To The Lyrics Field.
I think this started about the same time When In MC9 Copy Fields Was Added.
I don't think It Should Do That.

Sorry if I'm a little (lot) late to the party. Does anyone else have a problem with the Replay Gain settings not working properly. I have to disable/enable often. Seems to work OK in version 8X but not 9X.
Also, I know I missed this one--what's the story with CDDB. It's in version 8X but not 9X?

Bug:
after a rip, I see the rip report, I select one of the rereads to listen to the section. MC does play the section, but when selecting another section to play, MC freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-delete it away.

Nav doesn't seem to be a problem with my system. My CPU usage seems to level out at 30-50% with MC running (and NAV 2003) Disable NAV 2003 (and everything else except explorer and systray) problem still there. However I cannot see which registry key is looping (not smart enough!). As with ZRocker, I'm stuck with .120 until problem is resolved. I have no skinning running an went back and turned off all options I thought could be causing the problem. Still have "sticky mouse" on ver .121 to .123.

MJ9 Still seems to crash on on the last track when ripping on some Audio CD's
I just found another one.
And they all seem to rip fine on other Rippers.

Sorting Playlist Columns has become a problem for me also.
Multiple column sorts do not give consistent results.
Also, Iwhile sorting one playlist, the sequence column "disappeared" and I could not find it anywhere. I finally had to rebuild a new playlist and then delete the bad one.

Notes: The version in italics was the version being used when the bug was discovered. If it has been reported fixed, it will be struck out (
thus) until confirmed at which time it will be removed. If the bug is noticed in a successive build, the version number will be updated accordingly.
BUGS
- Memo Field Text Entry: 9.0.123 Text field is not given focus when the window opens
- Keywords: 9.0.123 Cannot reproduce "Keywords" behaviour on any other field.
- Keywords: 9.0.123 When using the wizard to search by keywords, none are listed individually and things like "war; freedom; sixties" are shown as an option, as opposed to "war", "freedom" and "sixties".
- Rename / Keywords: 9.0.123 Renaming keywords in the tree has the effect of adding the renamed keyword to the list with the old keyword still intact.
- Rename: 9.0.123 When renaming in the tree, any semi-colons are ignored. Renaming something to "test; hi" results in "test hi" being saved.
- Smartlists: 9.0.123 Smartlists such as "Random -- 1 hour" are recalculated and another hour of music is played instead of playing what is visible.
- Playback Filter / Smartlists: 9.0.123 A playback filter that is based on a smartlist is not refreshed after each song. Eg: a filter based on "[Last Played]=<120" won't work because the filtered tracks are never updated.
- Visualisation Studio: 9.0.123 When editing text elements, the new text is only saved when other properties of the element are changed before moving to another element in the visualisation.
- Visualisation Studio: 9.0.123 None of the custom fields work in the display.
- Visualisation Studio: 9.0.123 Any custom visualisations that are placed directly in the "Visualisations" folder will cause MC to crash on displaying them.
- Visualisations: 9.0.123 It is impossible to change the visualisation if MC is not playing anything.
- Auto Album Analyser: 9.0.123 Albums that have many artists, but are split into multiple directories, are listed under "Single Artist (incomplete)".
- Auto Album Analyser: 9.0.123 Single tracks and tracks with no album specified are listed under "Single artist (incomplete)". A large amount are actually from multiple artist CD's. Consider having a "Single Tracks" entry?
- Audio Analyser: 9.0.123 Has "Media Jukebox" in dialog.
- Audio Analyser / Library Change: 9.0.123 Changing the current library while analysing audio causes MC to crash.
- Audio Analyser: 9.0.123 Memory leak still present.
- Ripping: 9.0.119 Only the "original" fields are copied from the CD information to the ripped files. New information such as [Composer], [Keywords] etc. are not copied. It is useful to have this all entered before the album is ripped so that the files can be named properly.
- Keyboard Navigation: 9.0.123 Tab eventually ends up as a cycle between the tree on the left and the search bar when viewing playlists or media library, and between tree and tracks when in playing now.
- Media Zones: 9.0.119 With Direct Sound (I have a SB Live! Value) selected, selecting Front channels play on all speakers. Selecting Rear plays only on rear.
- Playing Now: 9.0.119 When playing now is empty, selecting a single track to play displays the message: "Please select track(s) to play."
REQUESTED FEATURES
- Playlist Properties: This could allow for comments, dates, and other properties to be assigned to playlists.
- Keywords: Allow a custom delimeter for each field. I have a number of fields that are ready for this, but have been implemented with commas and not semi-colons as required by Keywords.
- Audio Properties: Show info regarding mono, stereo.
- Custom Fields: Allow fields to be specific to media type (or simply to be hidden when not required). Eg: Audio files have no height and width properties and so the audio group should not be visible when clicking on an image file. These can be customised in the options group. Perhaps make the groups customisable in this respect.
- Custom Field Groups: I would like to have more field groups to extend the existing "General", "Extended", "File Info", "Audio" and "Display". Eg: Publishing Info, Classical Info, Recording Info. etc.
- File Properties: Allow a custom order of fields. eg: name, artist and album to appear first, and not just rely on alphabetical ordering.
- Party Mode: I would like party mode to be ABSOLUTELY dummy proof. You should run experiments with people who don't know what a computer is and are drunk as lords. A challenge! See how many times the play list can change in five minutes...
- Actions for Enter: Is it not possible to customise the action of enter (like Double click and "play") so that it doesn't have a "I'm going to kill your playlist for you"-type action. Personally, I would set it to "DO NOTHING".
- Options: Centralised options? PLEASE? I would like to be able to do everything from one place. I don't like having to press play so that I can right-click on the visualisation and see the options to customise it there.
- Intensity Levels: Almost all of my classical music fits into Intensity 1 or at a push at intensity 2. Is it not possible to add a few more intensity levels "below" 1? Perhaps shift everything up by 5 to make the range 1 through 10. Or add decimal points?
- Send To / Filter Menus: Please do not list all playlists in a single menu, but rather cascade them according to the tree that they appear in. It makes the task of finding a playlist a lot less daunting.
- Send To / Zones: When more than one zone is configured, to right click on a track and to be able to send it to the Playing Now (and derivatives thereof) of another zone. This is very useful for DJ's who need to listen and then easily queue music.

A last thing: I'm busy installing plug ins for encoding. MC reports the plugin as successful (and double checking it, it seems that it is right). However, it crashes immediately after installing a plugin with an error.

Bugs for Media Center ver. 9.0.123 beta
Part 1
- mini-me : On skins that use an actual thumb button on Playlists (instead of a scrollbar type) if you scroll to the top of the playlist, then double click a song to start it playing, the thumb button jumps to bottom. The list itself stays where it is.
- When MC tries to display thumbnails for Quicktime files (which it apparently can't do), it hangs for a minute before allowing me to do anything.
- Playlists : MC doesn't allow me to drag a playlist into a group unless Content View is currently displaying the contents of A playlist. It doesn't have to be the one I'm dragging, it just can't be in Playing Now or Media Library etc.
- Files being transferred to my Nomad II are being truncated. They are being converted to WMA format before the transfer.
- CD Burning : MC is messing up track numbers (when using DSP & RG settings?). Tracks end up overlapping each other.
- CD Burning : MC is still asking me if I want to burn a Data or Audio CD when I add a data only folder from My Computer within MC.
- CD Burning : When I drag a folder from MC's My Computer to the CD Burning pane, MC goes through the "Updating Database" bit. Why?
- Search : I'm using the criteria "folder=\Complete Albums" as a search criteria and MC is seperating the "Complete" and "Albums" portions, so that if I click on "Folder : \Complete Albums" and choose Remove, "Albums" is left behind. The same happens if I try to Edit by Typing. Not sure to what other keywords this is happening with.
- My Computer : Renaming a folder in My Computer changes the paths for files residing in subfolders of that folder incorrectly. For instance :
I have files with a pathname of ...My Music\Complete Albums\Metallica\Master of Puppets\ARTIST - NAME.mp3.
Changing the name of the folder Complete Albums to just Albums results in files with pathnames of ...My Music\Albums\ARTIST - NAME.mp3.
but the files still physically reside in ...My Music\Albums\Metallica\Master of Puppets\ARTIST - NAME.mp3.
- Fill Track Numbers from List Order really took a huge hit when File Properties was integrated into the interface. It's now impossible to re-order files in Content View without first adding them to a playlist, which hinders the usability of this feature.
- The Details box that is available after Importing a bunch of media would be much easier to use if it were resizable.
- The Filename Search Wizard isn't very helpful if your files are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Music folder.

- Clean File Properties : Running this on a file by an artist with a name like T.A.T.U. results in T.a.T.U.
- Playing Now : If I re-sort Playing Now by clicking on one of the headers, then choose Update Playback Order while the currently playing file is not the first on in the list, then Playing Now forgets which file is playing (even though it's still playing - even the Player Window loses all info) and the Next button ceases to work. If I click Previous, then MC thinks it's playing the first file in the list. But it's not.
- mini-me : Playlist Scrollbars now scroll playlists, but the thumb button jumps around like mad while you're scrolling. (Most evident when using a skin that uses an actual thumb button instead of a scroll bar)
- mini-me : If you move mini-me to the lower part of your screen, right click it (it works better if the skin is low enough on the screen that the menu opens upwards), then click somewhere on the skin, but away from the menu, mini-me moves. Sometimes it moves far enough away that it is no longer seen. It seems to be bound to the mouse in some way. You can move the mouse around without holding down the mouse button, and mini-me moves with it.
- Search : Picking the Full Albums Search modifier should be a toggle menu rather than just an add-only option. Choosing Full Albums more than once results in multiple Full Album criteria being added to the search bar.
- Search : There appears to be no way of adding "and" & "or" to a search unless you edit by typing. There should be an easy-to-use method of piecing together a long search criteria ie. (replaygain==0 or peaklevel==0 or bpm==0 or intensity==0) using the Wizard.
- Search : Removing a term from a search criteria (like right clicking and choosing Remove on "intensity=0" in mediatype=[audio] (replaygain==0 or peaklevel==0 or bpm==0 or intensity==0) results in mediatype=[audio] (replaygain==0 or peaklevel==0 or bpm==0 or) (notice the trailing "or".
- Search : None of the various Date related search items can be found in the wizard (except for some roundabout way of getting there through the Add Keywords menu and then clickout off of the search bar and then back onto the search term).
- Search : Date related search items are using a nearly impossible to understand format based on seconds in order to specify criteria.
- Search : The Sorting dialog box offers no indication of what I'm allowed to type. If I type in the name of a valid field, then it works fine, but wouldn't it be better to provide a list of valid fields to choose from? As it is, I can seemingly type in anything with no guarantee it's going to accomplish anything. Also, there is no indication of what kind of sorting modifiers are available or what they do (ie what does "-d" mean?) Wouldn't it be better to provide a multi-tiered box that lets you choose a column from a dropdown, and then another and another to allow sorting by multiple fields?
- Search : Selecting a Search Criteria, then choosing Edit by Typing results in a very difficult to read selection like this:

- Playing Now : Moving the column with the playing icon in it to another position takes the playing icon along with it.

- Playing Now : Deleting the currently playing file from Playing Now stops playback. Clicking Play results in an error message that says "Please select file(s) to play." Double clicking another file in Playing Now will restart playback.
- View Scheme Groups : Using the wizard to create search criteria for a view scheme isn't filtering out things based on the criteria specified for the group that the view scheme is in. For instance, creating a View Scheme in the Audio Group, if I try to specify a genre in the search criteria, I'm being presented with genres that only belong to images or videos, etc.
- Search : If you choose a Search Criteria, then choose Edit by Typing, and hit Ctrl-C to copy and go to a different smartlist and hit Ctrl-V to paste, the entire list of Search Criteria is copied instead of just the one you wanted.
- Playlists : If I drag a playlist out of one group and into another group, MJ presents me a with white square plus icon, which, based on standard Windows GUI behavior indicates a copy behavior, but instead is a move. I think this should behave exactly like Windows Explorer's drag and drop, including using Shift and Ctrl to modify the behavior, and allowing the Right Click drag that Windows has. It would just be more intuitive to people alreay using Windows.
- Adding images and music to Playing Now isn't consistent. If audio is already in Playing Now, then Adding images to Playing Now results in those images being tacked on to the end of Playing Now (but are never shown - even when their turn in Playing Now arrives), if music is played first, then images are played, Playing Now is wiped and only images are shown, but if images are played first, and then music is added, the desired result of images and audio simultaneously is acheived.
- If I Play images, then Play a playlist with music and video in it, the slideshow clears immediately even if the first file to play is Audio.
- When viewing images and listening to music, if Playing Now contains a video, playing that video will clear all images from slideshow.
- MEGA-ME Skinning : Renaming a playlist gives me the following drawing bug:

- Ever since Tree View got the ability to display individual items in the tree, Quick Play acts all funky. I can't choose an individual file to play from Media Library without also telling the Tree View to display track names.
- Image List View : This doesn't select files correctly. If you select one file, then hold control to select a few more, that works. If you hold down shift and select a range, that works as well. But when holding down Control + Shift to add a range of files to the currently selected files, all of the currently selected files become unselected.
- I have no idea what's causing this (seems to just happen after MC is playing for a while), but I've gotten this on more than one occasion:

Requests
- I had asked about the following mini-me enhancements and was told they would be incorporated after the Unicode stuff. HAven't heard anything about it.
- The ability to specify what information is displayed in the playlist, and some way of sizing the columns (either the skin maker or ideally the end user).
- A couple of extra ways of displaying text - center\left\right justify if the text is short enough but scrolls it if it's too long, for instance.
- It would be really cool if the mini-me button had an optional dropdown list of available skins. Meaning one of those two part buttons where the main part just switches to the previously selected skin, but the right hand side has a little arrow that when clicked shows the list.
- It would be really nice if when you were dragging columns around in Content View, it would scroll. It would make reordering columns a lot easier.
- CD Burning : It would be really helpful if you could right click on a CD-RW drive and choose to erase a CDRW disc from there instead of having to go into the CD burning dialog.
- CD Burning : It would also be really nice to have some sort of progress indicator when erasing a CDRW disc.
- IE Integration : Any chance of seeing some way to right click on an image in IE or Netscape and automatically saving the picture and importing it into MJ?
- Vis Bars : I'd (still) like to see seperate hide modes for each of MJ's display modes (Internal, External, Fullscreen). I'd like to have them never hide in Internal, but autohide in Fullscreen & External, for instance.
- Rename from Properties & Fill Properties from Filename : Any way we could get a wizard-type interface for this like we now have (more or less) with the Search bar?
- Replay Gain : MJ really needs Album Gain. If Playing Now contains a full album, use Album Gain, otherwise, use Radio Gain. If it's a mix between a full album and mixed tracks, check to see if the tracks belonging to the album are all in track order. If so, use Album Gain on those tracks. If not, use Radio Gain on the entire Playing Now list.
- Image List View : Can there be some "missing image" image? Like the MJ logo in place of a blank square? Or a red circle with a line through it? Or better yet, an image that we can specify for all missing artwork?
- Image List View : For the single image album art view, there needs to be a way to see the tracks belonging to that album. Maybe a multipaned view that shows the cover image on the left and the track names on the right? Or even a tooltip balloon like the ones that Rhino is using in his AlbumView plugin.
- Slideshow : How about an option to display the filename of the current file in Fullscreen mode?
- Ripping : I'd also like to see MJ be able to rip a CD to one wav\ape\mp3 and create a CUE sheet. Being able to create the relevant APL or whatever files in addition would be great along with an option to either import the full album wav\ape\mp3 or not.
- Visualizations : Can these remember what Display Quality to use based on what mode (Full Screen, MEGA-ME, mini-me) MJ is in?
- Can we get an option in Skin Manager to close Skin Manager on skin change?

Bugs:
1. Norton Anti-Virus 2002 (or 8.0) and MC 9.0 are fighting each other...it seems. Immediately after starting MC 9.0.122, the NAV Auto-Protect service (NAVAPSVC.EXE) goes to 75% to 100% cpu usage (forever)...so between MC and NAV, the system is 100% all the time. If you stop MC, usually NAVAPSVC.EXE goes back down to 0% usage (in about 1 minute). I tried starting zillions of other apps and this never happened...only when MC was started. So, there's something incompatible between the two programs...I have a hunch it's the looping registry key accesses MC is 'bugged' with these days (like on HKCR\AudioCD\shell).
Update:
I just went back to 9.0.120 and the conflict with NAV went away!!! This is the version prior to the looping bug on registry key access of HKCR\AudioCD\Shell...I guess that bug is brutal.

This is something I have noticed in the last few builds:
When playing large playlists MC9 randomly changes the play speed (songs start playing either too fast or too slow). I usually have to restart MC9 to resume playback at normal rate.

I'm just upgrading from Media Jukebox to the latest Media Center.
As my library is being upgraded, I occasionally get a popup window complaining that "Windows Media v9 is not installed on the system" and asking me whether I want to download and install it now.
First, does upgrading my library really require downloading a new Windows Media player? I don't know exactly what you're doing during the upgrade so it may in fact be necessary, but if not, it would be nice if this question was delayed until I actually tried to play one of those files. Since upgrading my 20000 files on the old 333 MHz computer I use to play music on takes quite a while I was going to leave it unattended, but fortunately I noticed nothing was happening after a little while.
Second, I initially said "no" because I didn't want to install Windows Media 9. Half a minute later I got the next dialog asking me whether I wanted to install it... and the next one, and yet another one. Maybe MC should remember what I told it the first time.
Third, when I gave up and said "yes", Mozilla popped up and asked me what it should do about the .mjp file it is asked to download. If I choose "open using application" I have to manually choose an application. This might be Mozilla's fault, just thought I should mention it. I have to open IE manually and paste the URL to get it to install.
(Seems it doesn't actually need Windows Media v9 to upgrade my library since when I said "yes" it immediately continued upgrading files without waiting for the download and installation to complete.)
Fourth, after successfully installing Windows Media v9 through IE in parallel with the library upgrade, MC continues popping up dialogs asking me whether I want to install Windows Media v9. Maybe the instance of MC which is upgrading my library already "knows" there is no such encoder installed because there wasn't one when it started.

Still having problems on my Win98SE machine. Jukebox responds sluggishly, and my mouse stutters when I move it around the screen. I have the latest mjextman.exe file and have turned "associate with audio CD's" off. Version .120 works perfectly no sluggishness.
Please try the next build (9.0.124) and go into the Devices settings and set the actions for both audio CD's and DVD's to "Nothing". Then see if you still have the performance problem.
Alternatively, a solution that would work with 9.0.123 is to go into the Norton anti-virus program Auto-Protect/Advanced options and disable the "Scan all removable media for boot viruses every time it is mounted" option.

The problem is, we're not looping and reading a registry key like you're describing, so it's difficult to track down what's going on. We can't reproduce the problem on any machine here. I'll try installing NAV and investigate the behavior with that.

I'm starting to move from MJ8 to MC9. Here are some things I've noticed in 123 (in no particular order):

This could be an artifact of user error, but I chose to reimport all my files instead of upgrading the MJ8 library. Some of the file information was lost, but not consistently--some of the custom field info I had in MJ8 made it, but other did not, even with the same field.
- Lost remote control plugins:
The Girder remote control plugin isn't available for download, nor does copying the old version allow you to install it
- Annoying sound effects when navigating in Hairstyle
It's nice to have navigation feedback, but can the mouseover sounds be turned off?
- Can't multi-select in tree pane of mega-me
This may be a windows limitation. I know you couldn't do it in MJ8.
- Scroll bar display problems 640x480 resolution (Z-megame)
- Some interface options only available on toolbar (thumbnail view, etc.)
This was a real problem for me, since I don't usually have the toolbar turned on. I couldn't discover how to get the "album view" back while in Mega-me. Toolbar commands should always be accessible in the menu/options structure.
- Long hierarchial menus don't scroll in Mega-Me (filters list, show only, hide, etc.)
- Naming a playlist, group, smarlist, etc. yields redraw artifacts (the default name is not erased while typing over)
REQUESTS:
- Would be better to have cascading menus for filters, show only, hide, etc.
- Multiple filters
It would be killer to be able to apply multiple filters. I realize you can setup a smartlist to filter all kinds of things, but I would like to play from the media library--then say "Don't play Christmas music and Only play Rock tracks with Ratings of 4 or higher". Right now, I have to create a single smartlist to do this. It would be great to just apply existing Smartlists as filters (no Xmas music smartlist, yes Rock genre smartlist, yes Favorites smartlist).

I beg to differ...MC is looping on registry key accesses from what I see here.
Here's the MC access to the registry for just one second (this stuff occurs continually while MC is running).

Hi,
I've just noticed that when "Analysing audio during ripping" option is on, the 'Peak Level' value is always set to 0.0. Other fields seems to be Ok.
Using MC9.0.123 under WXP or W2K -> same result.

EDIT
- Works ok when editing a single file (not via properties)
- Painfully (and I really mean PAINFULLY) slow if I edit through properties although it seems to be only on some fields, namely the 'Name' field
OPTIONS
- Device Settings/Type is greyed out. Only 'Auto Config' is available
NOTES/LYRICS
- Notes and Lyrics seem to be crossing over
ENCODING
- Converting from WAV to another format does'nt delete the original WAV file even though the appropriate checkbox is checked
CD LABELLER
- Rotates the image by 180 degrees
does'nt print the image
BURNING
- Keeps locking up during the burining process. Also, it sometimes ejects the CDRW during the burn. Sometimes freezes and needs a reboot

I can't rip anything with 123.
Tried with both digital large buffer and digital secure.
It starts to rip but stops about two thirds in the song, and then MC freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-delete it away.

Bug in ripping dialoque in advanced ripping settings:
After selecting ripping method and hitting ok, the cd rip dialoque minimizes down to the status line, instead of coming back into focus.
