I was running 29, upgraded to this build and when MC starts it's unusable. Clicking anywhere in the MC window just makes it freeze then after a time out Windows prompts to wait or end task.
29 is still installed and works fine. I have backed up the library, removed MC 30, rebooted, reinstalled and tried to restore the library but I can't do this as as soon I click in the MC window to use it it hangs and crashes again.
-
Crash or hang? Unresponsive or gone?
Did you configure antivirus ?
-
Hi Jim,
It hangs as soon as you click anywhere in the MC30 window. As soon as I click in the window the size/resolution of the window changes and looks a little fuzzy, as though it is just about to start playing a TV channel. Nothing happens at all after that.
If you click in the window a second time, Windows pops a message saying MC 30 is unresponsive, with options to close the program or wait for it to respond.
There is currently no AV running on this box.

If you are running Windows, then you have AV built in. To configure:

Thanks tzr916,
Windows Defender is configured with all recommended file, folder and extension exclusions.
I did previously have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed on this machine and removed it a few months ago when testing for speed differences in MC with it installed. I configured the exclusions in defender at that point and have not had any issues with it until I upgraded.
I'll check through the program folders tomorrow and see if anything has been added that isn't currently excluded.
-
OK, I double checked everything in defender and all appeared fine. Everything matched the AV checklist at https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114101.0.html but the issue still remained.
I reinstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection and have tried it without exceptions, with folder only exceptions and with file and folder exceptions and it works straight away.
Very odd.

OK, I spoke too soon!
It is doing the same thing, it just took longer to happen.
Have removed 30.0.41 and installed 30.0.40 and have the same issue, but MC 29.0.87 is working fine.
-
Check the Symantic website to see if they have an uninstaller. Uninstall it.
-
Still having the same issues.
I've removed SEP using Symantec's cleanwipe utility and there is no trace of it on the system.
I've re-configured Windows defender and excluded all JRiver folders and files everywhere on the system. I have also excluded folders used for media, tv recording, and anything else that is part of the MC library.
The only exclusions I have not made are for file types, but I can't see that making any difference in this instance.
I still have the exact same issue - MC30 starts and appears fine, but as soon as you click in the interface it hangs. If you click a second time, the MC screen gets greyed out and the Windows dialog box appears saying MC is unresponsive with options to close the program or wait for it to respond.
MC29 continues to work flawlessly. Is there anything else I can try?
I'm certain it isn't the AV, and have never had any issues with previous versions of MC on this machine whether using AV or not.
Is there an MC log file somewhere I can take a look at?
-
See the wiki topic on Logging. Read the bottom of the log after a hang.
-
Thanks Jim,
I have created the logs but there's nothing glaringly obvious I can see.
Can I send them in to you?
-
See the wiki.
Look at the bottom of the log to see what MC is reading?
-
We think this will be fixed in a new build coming shortly. I'll post here once it's out.

Hi Matt,
This does seem to have done the trick.
Have had MC running in standard view now for an hour without a hang - I could only get a few seconds before when running 30.0.40 or 41.
What was the issue?
Also, I noticed that the installer for this version rockets along and completes in seconds, the same as with the installer for MC29 versions.
The installers I ran for 30.0.40 and 41 both started the install, then appeared to hang for a couple of minutes before continuing.

The issue was in showing TV program logo in Standard TV view. Something was not right in image/thumbnail code.

Many thanks for your help all!
