Tonight's build (9.0.119) has this new feature:
7. NEW: Added EXIF parsing / display for JPEG's. (look at "Format" properties pane--use the < > arrows to get there)
Cmagic and others have asked for this. They may be able to explain it more fully, but it's a standard that digital cameras use to tag each image. Here's a sample of what you'll see (from one of my images):
2048 x 1536 - 1.412 MB
SONY CYBERSHOT - 12/30/2001 7:06 AM
ISO-100 - F/5.6 - 1/200 sec.
Focal Length: 8 mm
Metering: Center Weight
White Balance: ?
Flash: No
JPEG Quality: Normal
Orientation: Normal
Exposure Program: Auto
Exposure Bias: 0
Comments:
MJMD Tag: v1.0 (614 bytes - APPID 9)
<MJMD>
<Name>DSC00230</Name>
<Genre>Paris</Genre>
<Year>2001</Year>
</MJMD>
Thanks, Matt, for adding it.
If you have suggestions for how we can tweak this, please let us know. We could, for example, take the date from the file and fill it in in the MC database.

JimH: I'd love to be able to use the metadata to fill MC fields - most significantly a field I've created called PhotoDate. I organize my digital photos preliminarily by date. MC fails me in this regard because I don't always download the files on the same date that I took the photos. I end up doing it manually, but it'd be great to automate the process.
Scott-
P.S. Thanks for adding EXIF functionality - it's one more step closer to making MC *THE* multimedia manager... audio, video, CD/DVD, images - what more could one want?

Hi
NEW: Added EXIF parsing
Been looking for this for a while, too.
My thanks to you and Matt.
Darn, two gifts in one night.
Thanks

Could the EXIF info show the date and time fields for when the pic was taken?
I'm not sure if it covers all the fields but the plugin for Irfanview has a nice selection of information.
-
One feature that I'd love would be the ability to rename files based on the date/time held within the EXIF data.
My digital camera just renames them sequentially, e.g. FILE0001/FILE0002/etc, and to be able to rename them like YYYY-MM-DD HHMMSS would be brilliant.
Are the tokens exposed to do this?

It does. Check the example I gave in my first post.

Sorry Jim didn't see this thread when I posted earlier, and I didn't see the time and date before because it was all one line and had shot off the edge of my properties page. Thanks

Hi,
EXIF ! Whow ! that's a nice surprise. I haven't tried it yet as I'm just coming back from a relaxing
week-end, but thanks a lot Matt.
The fields that I use most in EXIF are :
Date Time Taken : would be nice to have access to this one as a main property fieldn so that it's easy to sort pics on the exact date/time they wereshot.
Camera model :
Shutter Speed :
Aperture :
Orientation :
Focal length :
ISO number :
Flash fired :
Note there exist a field called 'Maker Note' where camera manufacturers put special informations.
For example Canon put the ISO number and flash parameters inside their proprietary maker note, I think Sony doesn't and don't know about Nikon, I'll check that.
If you want to have a look at all the EXIF fields check this nice little utility :
http://www.friedemann-schmidt.com/software/exifer/
Anyway, I'll have a closer look at the new EXIF-enabled MC.
Thanks a lot folks !
later,
Christian

Hi agin,
Could not wait, just installed 119 and did a quick test .
On my Canon S30 :
Focal Length : Ok
Shutter speed : Ok till 1.0 sec for longer exposure (yes I like night shots) stuck to 1/1.0
Aperture : Ok
Flash : Seems OK
Orientation : OK
Exposure Program : Not displayed (maker note)
White Balance : Not Diplayed (maker note)
ISO : DOES NOT DISPLAY (maker note)
On a Nikon D100 :
Focal Length : Ok
Shutter speed : Ok till 1/1
Aperture : Ok
Flash : OK
Orientation : NOT DISPLAYED
Exposure Program : Seems Ok
White Balance : Not Diplayed
ISO : DOES NOT DISPLAY
For both : Date / Time, H x W, Camera models : are OK
Not bad for a start :) will try to morrow with some pics from a Pentax S330.
Ciao,
C.

a little update,
JPEG Quality :
for NIKON (D100) : Ok
for CANON (S30) : No Display (think it's in the Maker note)
Bye for now,
C.

Hey guys, please check out my suggestions for EXIF data use in MC that I posted in the "Changed: "Date Created" will be filled from EXIF"" Thread. Here is a link:
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=beta;action=display;num=1046510790;start=0
Please add your suggestions so that MC can be the best Multimedia Software available.
