Title: How can I install LAV filters when offline?
Post by: KeeterJ on February 10, 2023, 07:34:38 pm
I sometimes work at a secure site with no internet connection, but I want to record and view OTA ATSC1 transport stream TV programs.  During playback I'm being prompted that MC 30 needs to download and install LAV filters (not sure which ones, but I assume an audio/video splitter). I tried running my own copy of LAVFilters-0.77.1.exe from Doom9 but it did not help.  In this case I can't put the PC on the net.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On the topic of being offline, I can't tell you how many times I have updated MC, then loaded up a bunch of music and TV programs on my laptop then hit the road on an RV, motorcycle, or boat trip only to discover I need to update the missing components and I'm off-the-grid and can't do it.  Silly me!  You'd think I'd learn the lesson to try a sample playback at home before I leave.

Can you use your phone as a hotspot?

Copy this folder from another PC with MC fully updated into that one:
%AppData%\J River\Media Center 30\Plugins
(eg: C:\Users\keeter\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 30\Plugins

You may also need to copy this Reg key, but I'm not sure if it's needed:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 30\Dependencies

JimH -  Normally I would use a hotspot but at the facility in question mobile phones are not permitted onsite.

zybex - Thanks, I think you solved my problem but it will be a few days before I can try it.  I forgot that MC likes to install stuff in user land, not system land.  I was looking for LAV stuff under Program Files, not my own user profile.  Also, I never realized that MC uses its own jr-named LAV files.

zybex - Your suggestion worked for me.  As you mentioned, I did have to create the registry entry to point to the dependencies folder.

My thanks to you (and Mister LAV Henrik, too!)
