Title: Media Center 9.0.121 beta
Post by: Matt on February 26, 2003, 01:11:48 pm
Media Center 9.0.121 beta is available.

Many things will crash and not work.  If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90121.exe

1. NEW: Added sticky views. (remembers sorting, columns, list mode, etc. for different areas)
2. NEW: Navigation now remembers selection and scroll position when switching between views.
3. NEW: Audio CD's can be automatically played or ripped upon insertion into the drive. DVD's can be automatically played.
4. Changed: Double click will always return from Full screen. (not toggle Hairstyle)
5. Fixed: Video playback would not stop after playing the last file in Playing Now. (would just stall saying "Waiting...")
6. Fixed: Pressing previous wouldn't always fire a DVD's previous chapter.
7. Fixed: Full screen would change to Hairstyle when transitioning between media types.
8. Changed: Image playback would not stop after finishing the last image in a slideshow.
9. Changed: Mouse forward / back buttons now work for navigation in Hairstyle.
10. Changed: MC does a better job of disabling screensave and monitor poweroff in Fullscreen mode.
11. Changed: Search Wizard better at handling "list" data type.
12. Changed: MC better at handling emtpy "list" data type fields.
13. Changed: MC trims leading / trailing spaces on "list" data type fields.
14. Changed: Retooled "Confirm Delete" dialog to include both Recycle Bin and permanent deletion. (remembers which to use so when you hit [Shift]+[Del], it'll always be the same)
15. Fixed: Instead of reverting to the default library after failure to load a library, Media Center will load previously loaded library.
16. Fixed: Library Manager was showing incorrect state for the newly added library.
17. Fixed: Media Center was failing to create directory using UNC path.
18. Fixed: Current color of list control defined in mega-me skins was not used correctly.
19. Fixed: Implemented better handling of Media Server search replies.
20. Changed: Audio analysis during ripping is now on by default.
21. Fixed:  Media Center was not allowing to enter paths with leading or trailing periods in "File Naming and Location".
22. Fixed: Media Center was not clearing "recently imported" list on exit.
23. Changed: Duration would appear in the tooltip twice.

When going to the [Options] window and selecting [Encoding] it displays:

The MP3 encoder is not on your system - would you like to download.

If you select [Yes] it downloads from the internet but then MC Crashes.

Any chance of having MJ automatically create a .m3u playlist file for each album it rips - this is especially important to me now that MJ will automatically rip cd's for me. If it'll create the .m3u playlist for me with a naming format I specify then it'll really let it be fully automated.

I LOVE the way you've done the options screen - having 'advanced' options is a really good way to give more technical options to power users without confusing beginners with things they wont understand.

Sticky views are working GREAT so far :)

BUG:

The drop down lists in properties windows are specifying : hip-Hop and Hip-Hop as two seperate items yet the tree view doesn't and shows them as one.
The properties list needs to not be case sensitive.

Why stop there? How about CRC checksum values added to the comment field as well. I could kiss EAC goodbye forever then.

Have you done anything with the Media Server in this build ?

It now works again and I can connect from another PC.

However, it only works if I turn off authentication.  If I enable authentication its not prompting me for a username/password when I try and connect from a remote MC client (which is why it fails I guess).

Thanks, Mark

Love the new re-working of the 'delete' options.

This might sound minor and it is so feel free to ignore it - just a suggestions:

For the wording of these options:
'Recycle File(s)'  doesn't sound very clear and for me it makes perfect sense, for half of the people I install MJ onto their machines for they'd be confused.
How about: 'Send File(s) to Recycle Bin'

'Leave File(s) on hard drive'  - this makes it sound a bit like MJ isn't going to do anything and is an option to 'leave it as it is (aka cancel)' - I understand it fine - my computer illiterate flat mate and mum dont.
This might work better:
'Leave File(s) on hard drive but remove from MJ Library'

Minor things I know but by the looks of it you guys are getting near production point so I'd imagine it's trim and tidy point with the major construction out of the way.

Also - one minor other wording question - on installation - I sTILL haven't worked out what the Auto install ...... checkbox means  from it's wording and I haven't heard any replies on here as to what it is.
Could this please be explained and possible the text here could be slightly better worded to explain what it means to first time users as well.

LOVE how it's going :)

FIXED...

* LOVE the Sticky Views.

* LOVE Double Click now returns me to where I was... no Hairstyle... simply GREAT!!

Still A Problem...
* Upon installing over previous version... MC does not remember last Skin used such as Green Eyes.

Oh Boy !! Sorry its me again  ::)

I'm now getting all of the cover art via media server as well (even the folder.jpg files).

I'm sure I never used to get the cover art with the music over media server (unless I'm going mad !).

Thanks,

Mark

Hello

DVD's can be automatically played.

Thank you.

If anything in the tree is highlighted, when a DVD is pop in, whatever is highlighted will play. (not the DVD)

The only way they will play right, is if Start is highlighted and you are at the Welcome screen.

From what I can see.

Thanks
Griff
Or maybe this is the way you want it?

I don't think Media Server changed in this build.

The authentication problem may have been the problem others are seeing.  We'll check it.

We're doing a lot of work on Media Server for an important reason.  It could be hit or miss for a few weeks, though it won't change now until Gateley gets back from Antarctica.

Sticky Views rock.  Finally my music does not display image height/width ;D

New media server thing did something funky.  I tried to connect to Kings with my old settings but failed and said reverting to previous library, however after clcicking okaty the library was blank.  reloaded default and it was all okay but...

Just noticed something with sticky views.  If I sort a view scheme under audio by artist it sorts all view schemes under audio by artist...  this is a bit counter intuiive.  It would be better if I could sort Artist/Album by Artist but AlbumArtist(auto) Multiple Artists by Album...

Strike that after restaring and reading Jims post to NIla in another thread I think I may have been talking crap ;D

EEK!! What happened to sorting? I hope this isn't based on something 'smart' now. I kind of like to have it the way I want in the list view. Please tell me it didn't go the way of the dodo bird.

I wonder if settings for sorting (or something else?) over-rule sticky.  We'll check it tomorrow.

This build is REALLY FAST!!  Loads in seconds including the TV.

Must be getting close to final release??

Any chance of getting popup keys (like TAB) for common TV controls?  This would put the finishing touches on MC for me!

1)Clicking a *.rm link downloads the file instead of streaming it.  If I cut and paste the link in to "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.

Clicking on a *.ram link does nothing.  Again, if I cut and paste it into "Open URL of streaming file" dialog box, the file streams fine.

BOTH file types are registered under MC9 in IE Folder options.

2)Direct Sound only outputs to the front two channels bypassing the Audigy Surround Sound and digital effects software.  If I attempt to use the MC9 DSP effects and JRSS, it does map to all of my 4 channels, but sounds like crap -- lots of crackling.

3)ASIO crashes about a minute into an internet audio stream (MP3 web radio), or if you click on another link while playing a stream.

Ok, well my problem was not just with the old build....my smartlists are only updating a little bit.  I have 2571 total audio files in my library...but in my smartlist "iPod Tunes" there are only 1888 files.
I do have one limit but it only limits 100 total files......
What's the deal?
I recently added all those new files, and some are on the smartlist, while others are not.  1888 is the number of files previously there though.  I'm lost.

I am still having an issue with the "output format" in DSP Studio. If I enable and try to play a mp3 MC just closes. No windows crash box-nothing just poof gone.

Reopen MC uncheck "output format" and MC works again.

-MC9.0.121 is sluggish to start and locks up when "Recording" is activated. CTRL+ALT+DEL and close MC is the only escape. Restarting the computer doesn't help.
-Playback is jumpy and skips like a bad vinyl record whether playing MP3's, ape's or wav's, either in Digital or Analog playback
-Download Manager won't work at all. It just sits there until Emusic's DM opens. I can disable EDM but I've never had to before.
-Plug-ins won't install. When installing, I get an error message of -- Package Installer "Version Info File is Invalid". Don't know if that's related.
-When trying to automatically install the MP3 encoder (It says it's missing, Do I want to install it?), I get an "Invalid package file. Cannot continue." That keeps looping until I say "No" a couple of times.
-When trying to download them from the site, I get a "Failed to install package" and a "Failed to unzip ..." whatever plugin I'm trying to download.

This one's been around forever, never seen you guys acknowledge it, so I thought a picture would help.

When using "date imported" in a smartlist through the wizard, the list of available dates isn't in the correct format.  In fact, I don't know what format it's in.

I don't update on every new revision but I noticed that around version 9.0.119 the file size changed dramatically! Version 9.0.113 was around 11.4 MB, and version  9.0.119 was only about 7.54 MB. What was yanked? I also lost the ability to convert to WMA after upgrading to 9.0.119.  Any chance the decrease in file size is a result? 9.0.121 has same problem. I installed WMP encoder about the same time too. Problem?

5Tillfree, you're not listening either.  ;D The reason was in a thread a few versions ago: WM9 came into the build and then was kicked out, so you only have to download it if you want to use WM9 files. And I like it! I don't trust WM9.  8)

1) I still don't get the ö, é, è etc. Is this just my problem? Because from some other reactions I see that they do not have that problem. I hadn't this problem up til version 0080 or something like that.
Is in Matt's hands by now, though.

2) Slide bars don't work (well) in various playlists. Also: if the slider works, it isn't quick enough. And the up- and down-arrows don't work at all in these playlists.

3) if you want to drag a file within a playlist, the screen runs from the end to the beginning.
I'll try to explain it a bit: if you have, say, 300 files in a playlist and you want to put number 300 to number 80: when you start dragging you're at position number 1 within 1 second. Some quick jerking with the mouse is required to get to the number 80 position

4) Editing the Name-properties of a jpg or mp3 is very slow responsive (correct English?): when typing the letters appear with quite a delay

Version 120 was the best for me for a looong time, but I really want to check out the sticky views :)
I may be back with more shortly, but for now, there's this....

I deleted everything prior to the 120 installation, but chose to go the "over the top" route for v121. Got something for the 1st time with this, namely, a "reboot" request because "setup was unable to copy some files". Hokay, allowed it to reboot, and was greeted with this....
I stared at this a while to allow the message to sink in, then clicked OK and was greeted by this....
clicked ok to this and setup tells me it's completed.
As both these elements sound pretty crucial to MC functioning to expectations, I didn't bother trying to run it, I removed everything and reran setup. This time it was as smooth as the proverbial baby's behind:). Now I'm off to play around with it and see what else I can break!!!!!
Oh yeah, before anyone suggests it, I can confirm that MC was NOT running before installing v121.
Those errors could do with a tidy-up too. "Media Jukebox 8.0 Install Wizard" ??

media center (9.0.120, not checked with 121):

MC client player window displays mm:ss/Live instead of mm:ss/total duration as in previous version (if I am not wrong !).

BTW, MC is becoming more and more nice; you are doing a very good job, congratulations !

Sticky Views:

* When MC minimized to the Task Try (not the Task Bar) & I right mouse click on the MC icon, then select Exit, MC will not re-load minimized to the Task Try.

* I usually load MC with the TV in a window which automatically reduces MC itself minimized to the Task Try.  Upon exiting MC it will not re-load windowed as I last had it.

All other Sticky View items including the Sort List order seem to be working great for me.

Title: Web Media problem since .120
Post by: e-joe on February 27, 2003, 04:49:25 am
Greetings,

I'm a registred MJ & MC user and since the day MC upgraded itself from version ? to .120 I can no longer connect to my added radio stations. I've tried removing them all and adding them again to no avail. The error message I get is "Please select file(s) to play."

The funny thing is I can access MC's preconfigured stations without any problems.

I have not changed firewalls or done anything else to my XP-system that I think could have anything to do with the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated as I like to listen to various radio shows through MC.

Regards,

e-joe  :)

The PDA plugin is working fine now.  You need to download the new one.  I got it the other day and it works great...

So I don't have to waste a blank CD, does anybody know if the problem with MC screwing up track numbers is fixed?

1. Import Media (Mp3 files): When reading artist, if TPE2 contains data, artist is filled with data from TPE2.  If TPE2 is blank, then artist is filled with data from TPE1.  You should be consistent.  Artist should always correspond to data from TPE1.

Bug or design?
After d'loading and installing the mp3 plugin, MC crashes. Exits silently, just disappears. Upon restarting (MC), the plugin has installed.
If this is by design, a message letting the user know what's about to occur and why might be nice.

Still can't get MC to start minmised to tray.

Next & Previous are playing up badly. Via the media keyboard keys, the right-click tray menu, or MC's player controll buttons, they cause the track that has focus to change to the "playing now" track, but doesn't play it. Track info in the playing control area does not update untill I actually begin playing the track.

System info same as above.

Whenever I try to rip a partially defective CD, MC9.0.121 ß crashes with the following error:

Unhandled exception at 0x76b4ad79 in Media Jukebox.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000204.

Here is the stack trace and the code which it is executing when the crash occurs:

EDI = 000060AC EIP = 76B4AD79 ESP = 029AFE04 EBP = 029AFE90 EFL = 00000246

While I understand that MC9 should fail when trying to rip a defective CD, it shouldn't crash.

Thanks,
Timothy

After upgrading to .121.  Loading is sluggish, mouse has gotten jumpy all of a sudden when Media Center is maximized or minimized!

It was great up until this point!

Bugs:
1. MC is looping (or continually accessing) on registry key HKCR\AudioCD\Shell...at a rate of about 27 times a second (on my slow 450 mHz PII processor).  Bet that's not helping speed and why MC is hovering around 30% busy all the time now (with no visualizations turned on).

SUGGESTION:
Any chance that MC can play unencrypted DVD VOB/IFO files off hard disk in the same way as Cyberlink PowerDVD, instead of relying on a DVD in  my DVD drive?

I just successfully burned an audio CD from mp3 tracks by various artist.  Upon completion, the song titles and the correct individual artist for each track were listed.
This is the first time  that has worked for me in a while.  Thank you, Joe Karnes

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/02/19  Priority: High
Auto-Rip keeps prompting for the next CD without ripping the current one.
  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/11/09  Priority: High
'Calculate replay gain during ripping' isn't doing anything

I can't reproduce these on my computer. Auto-rip shouldn't prompt for a new CD anymore, it just waits around until one is inserted or the user clicks "Done". The replay gain problem was fixed a few builds ago.

That's probably why my mouse got jumpy!
