hi, i'm using jriver 30,
i've just built a new htpc (modest), the thing is i have an AMD RX 580 connected via HDMI to a Denon AVR-X3500H
i imported a library backup from the old pc and it worked except for sound. it was repeating a sound at a very small interval.
i kind of figured out that bitstreaming was the culprit, removed it, set the output device to the default direct sound device and it worked.
the only thing is that volume is quite low, previously a comfortable level was approx -40db, now i have to go down to -13db to get similar sound
i've left dsp output format as per the defaults:
encoding (none), channels (source), sample rate (didn't change it)
also output format says is enabled and processing 48kHz 64bit 6ch
any thoughts on what i could improve ?

Click on the speaker icon in the upper left corner and try other volume options.
Check the Windows Mixer volumes.
-
thanks for the reply, everything seems to be at a 100%, also tried some variations of the volume options (didn't restart jriver though), but no changes

Do you want 6 channel?
-
in principle, yes, i have a 5.1 speakers setup powered by my denon.
-
If your recording is stereo, you can send it stereo and let the Denon play it as 5.1.
-
the recording is in 5.1 (a tv show), i'll try to play around with the settings, also in the receiver and report back
-
i noticed that i'm getting no sound from the rear speakers.
i changed the output channels but no dice
should i change something else ?
-
Try no output format (unchecked). Make sure the Denon is set to do 5.1.
-
exactly
i changed the receivers sound mode to "multi ch stereo", now i have all speakers on
it seems to be working
not sure about the sound level, however i think i can live with it
-
What is the HDMI port on the Denon? Did you try another?
-
i'll try that, i'll also be looking into a couple other things
-
final update:
i had just installed windows 11, so i figured i'd be better off installing the amd drivers, once i did, it installed a new amd high definition device, which is making bitstream work
for the time being, i prefer to just make it work, instead of fussing around with settings on the receiver (and/or jriver)
thanks a lot for your support JimH !
