Title: Does Media Server work for you ?
Post by: retrospek on February 20, 2003, 12:18:57 pm
Hi all,

Since 116 and now 117 I can no longer connect to my media server via my lan.

Is anyone else having problems ?

When I try and connect the Media Server Displays:

- Received a connection
- ready for another connection
- private sharing thread started
- sharing thread exiting

But then MC on the client machine says:

"Cannot establish connection to the server"

Is anyone else seeing this problem.

Also, any chance if MC has a problem connecting to a Media Server it could display more details on the problem (as I'm sure it would help with these Media Server connection problems).

Thanks,

Mark

P.S. Both machines are running the 117 release and I don't have any firewall between the machines on my home lan.  Everything worked great until 116.

What's a Mystery Beacon? I noticed that on mine too.

Mystery beacon is something we're working on.  It will talk to specific (well-known) hardware, but my lips are sealed for now.

I really hope Matt is going to look at this today.

My MC will not connect to Media Server.  But I can't see any error messages being displayed anywhere.

Thanks.

Media Server in build 118 will work, but it may be broken for some people.

A few builds ago, we added a timeout.  We set it to 30 seconds, which is enough for a collection of a few thousand tracks, but not enough for large collections.

We thought we had raised the timeout to 45 seconds in build 118, but apparently not.  I just counted on my machine and it times out after 23 seconds.

That's probably why KingSparta's Media Server doesn't work.

There may be another problem, too.  If yours doesn't work when you are selecting a specific server (not searching for servers), then go to File/Library/Library Manager and edit the entry.  The address for one of my servers was blank.

Also double check that the port you are running on is the same on both sides.  On my internal network, mine looks like this: 192.168.1.100:8123 .  8123 is the port.

Im running 118 on both ends .. have the same port set .. and NOTHING happens .. I get "CANNOT ESTABLISH CONNECTION TO THE SERVER within 2 seconds of trying to connect ..

If I try to do the FIND feature .. it will find the server (twice) and upon trying to connect will return the cannot connect message within 2 seconds ..

No errors apparent.

and if you can connect, you cannot play ogg files (with cover "inside, I don't know about without cover), MC hangs and crashes (at least with 117 since I have not tried with 118 yet).

Just an update that I've checked everything and it still doesn't work.

I've checked the ports on Media Server and the Media Centre client and they are the same (I've also tried changing them but it didn't make any difference).

I've also removed the port and let it try an automatic connection and it doesn't work.

I'm not sure it is related to the timeout you mentioned Jim as it fails within 2-5 seconds of trying to connect.

But the weird thing is that it DOES get to the media server but then display an error (as I've posted in my first message in this thread).

I don't know what to try next  ::)

I've also installed 118 and it still has problems.
