While ripping CDs I came to a CD that will not play. When I use File/Quick Play/Drives and Devices/D: , I get the message: "This Selection has no playable files". When I use VLC player, the CD plays OK. All other CDs that I have been ripping had no problems. My setup is Windows 11 Pro with MC 31.0.32.
I have checked all my settings for CD/DVD Devices and enabled all the audio file associations( some which I'll never use ).
The CD is Joe Ford-Today's Nights(1993) distributed by Bluemoon Recording/Rhino Records, a standard stereo CD. My question is there anyway I can get this CD to play in JRiver MC?

Update: This same CD plays in Windows Media Player but when I looked at the properties, there was no metadata at all, not even the file extension. I didn't know they could make commercial CDs like that. I'm guessing that something in the metadata is required by JRiver in order to play the disk. What might that be I wonder?

It's possible that the CD has some copy protection issue and that VLC is using Microsoft to play it.
There is normally no metadata on a CD.

Solution found! I was able to go to another PC that has Windows Media Player installed and play the CD as well as fill in the Artist, Title & Album info then burn to a blank CDR. I then inserted this CD in my PC with JRiver and it plays and the Artist, Title and Album fields show in the player. I then filled in the other missing data(date, genre, file type) and it ripped OK. Not exactly a perfect solution but it worked for me.
