Hello folks,
How do I segregate my duplicate Albums.
Let me explain.
I have various versions of many of my albums.
For example Reissues, SACDs, Remasters, and so on.
I also have Best ofs...; Anthology Collections; Box Sets you name it. Are you still with me?
I wish to have one Go To album to play as a default - with all other versions available but held to one side.
How do I segregate these alternative Albums.
Do I give the chosen default album a flag, a custom tag, marker, or what ever.
Be aware I have >12k albums, abt 140k tracks.
How would you do it. Do you have a something similar requirement.
What are you ideas and suggestions, please.
Thank you,
-
Hi,
Here's how I do it:
1. I add info about the release version at the end of the album tag using []. Ex.: The Dark Side of the Moon [DSD, remaster, SACD, 2003, EMI]
2. I use a custom field, [Favorite version], which is set to yes for my favorite versions of any albums.
3. In my MC views, I use Customize View/Set rues for file display to specify that I only want to show my favorite versions (and all the albums with only 1 versions in my library) using the following rule : [Favorite version]=[],[yes]
Hope this helps!

Hope this helps!
Wow and double wow. DangerJP, that is just what I want.
Like you I already suffix my albums with release version.
So you reckon a custom field [Favourite version] is the answer.
I had supposed that but it is wonderful to hear you second my thinking.
Great minds.....

using the following rule : [Favorite version]=[],[yes]
Does that rule pick up the albums where there is just a single version.
I hope I don't have to specify them myself !!
-
yep, it works that way for me.
So, :
- - albums with only 1 version library : Favorite version = []
- albums with 2 or more versions :
- - favorite : Favorite version = yes
- all other versions : Favorite version = no

[/list]

Sorry DangerJP, you will have to help me understand this.
It all looks very good and reassuring.
How do I apply your code.
By the way I have chosen to use a new library field called <GoTo>.
Data Type is Integer
Edit Type Check
Which means I only have to tick the box rather than type the word yes.
Using my method what code do I use and how / where do I use it.
Ha, please speak slowly 😀
You are very good to help me out with this. It is appreciated.

Hi
For my field [Favorite version], I use a list type, with acceptable values yes;no (see sreenshot 1).
I then use this field to customize my views with Set rules for file display (see the last line in screenshot 2 : Favorite version is any <empty;yes>).
Regards,

You are most helpful.
Those images are marvellous.
I have now copied your data type and edit type.
- all other versions : Favorite version = no
Have you specified those albums that do NOT have Favorite version = yes.
-
You're welcome!
- all other versions : Favorite version = no
Have you specified those albums that do NOT have Favorite version = yes.
As I wrote, only 3 possibilities for me :
for all albums with only 1 version :
favorite version = <empty>
for all albums with 2 or more versions :
favorite version = yes, for the versions I want to appear in dedicated views
favorite verion = no, for the versions I don't want to show in these views. They are still accessible through other views though.

I am slow to understand.
Got it now.
You are most patient with me.
Thank you,
