Title: backup thumbnails
Post by: maid on September 13, 2023, 02:38:31 am
My auto backup does not seem to be adding the thumbnails as the backup is much smaller than when I make one

Make sure you're using the latest build (31.0.54), and make sure the option in MC's Options > Library & Folders > Behavior > Thumbnails in library backups is set to Yes.

I just double checked mine, and all automatic backups include thumbnails here.

sorry to ask, what is the Benefit of saving thumbnails as well?

Perhaps it is easy to explain what is the Disadvantage in not doing so.
thanks,

So you don't have to rebuild them if you install MC on another PC, or do a clean MC install or upgrade from one MC version to another. For some with large libraries it can take hours to days to rebuild thumbnails, so there's a big advantage backing them up. The disadvantage is it increases the file size of the library backup, which honestly these days isn't really that much of a big deal.

Awesome Donkey,
your answers are so full. You cover every aspect that is worthwhile with no added waffle.
I have noticed your clear and concise style both here and elsewhere.
Thank You,
