Title: 32bit floating point or fixed point?
Post by: Sky King on November 21, 2023, 02:31:42 pm
I am able to play 32bit 352.8khz files using JRiver.  Is there any way to tell if these files are floating point or fixed point?  Something tells me that the answer will be "If you can play them then they are fixed point" but I could be wrong.

Use the Mediainfo application to examine the wav file. Look at Audio: Format profile or Format settings.
If the file is floating point, then Format profile will be 'Float', if fixed then Format settings will be something like 'little/signed'
AFAIK MC can play floating point files, it can certainly create them: Convert Format>Bit depth 32bit or 32bit(integer).

Many thanks Terry!  I noticed that "Convert Format" function offers conversion to 64-bit.  What's the thought behind that option?
