Title: CDLabeler.exe antivirus problem
Post by: BigCat on November 24, 2023, 11:27:21 pm
My once a week malware scan suddenly thinks that the Version 31.0.80 version of this file is evil:

C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 31\CDLabeler.exe

VirusTotal somewhat agrees with 17/72 not liking it, a relatively high number. Obviously it is likely a false positive, though I do want to make sure my PC is clean.

I updated JRiver to Version 31.0.84 and now only 1 out of 70 say that file is bad.

Not sure what to make of that so I am reporting it here. I am using a paid non-MS antimalware.

Many antivirus programs use the same core from Kaspersky.

Their methods aren't great.

Hi Jim!

It's good to hear from you, though you should be "thankfully" taking a holiday break till Monday!

My anti-malware is Emsisoft (paid), which I believe uses a variation of BitDefender's technology, not Kaspersky's.

I noticed that the installer for that JRiver version continues to trigger my scanner.

Again, the issue seems to have resolved with the update so I was just reporting it since I have never seen that before.

Generally, any false positives should be submitted/reported to the antivirus/antimalware software developer/company, usually they have a form or method which their users can use to do so. There really isn't much JRiver themselves can do about it though.
